Job Description

Reports to: On-site Supervisor



The Client Support Worker (CSW) provides continuous indoor and outdoor program monitoring to ensure the safety and security of both visitors and participants at the H4 program, while supporting key program functions. This involves routine perimeter walks and assessing participants and guests entering the program to identify barriers, needs, or safety concerns. This role involves facilitating access to services and ensuring connection with the appropriate resources within the program.

The CSW will also provide support to various areas within the program, monitoring transitions between spaces and ensuring smooth operations. The CSW also play a key role in welcoming new participants, building rapport, support with the provision of basic needs services including food and clothing, and providing trauma-informed intervention during incidents or crisis in the program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:



Supporting Safety Within Program Functions Regular reporting of perimeter walks around the building and community; identifying and logging concerns. Managing outdoor patio spaces; ensuring bike security and mediating disputes as appropriate; Responding collaboratively with the on-site staff to emergency situations such as medical incidents or escalated behaviour; Ensuring bathrooms and shower spaces are safe; Restocking supplies and maintaining program inventory, as needed

Building Client Rapport



Connect with participants entering the program to effectively support with orienting, directing or encouraging participants to access supports. Build ongoing relationships with new and regular participants attending the program to better understand individual behavioural baselines by name.

Program Operations and Activities



Assisting with day-to-day operations of the program including break coverage, sorting donations, and sanitizing high touch areas. Receiving and refilling program inventory and supplies. Completing other duties as required.

Education & Skills:

Post secondary education, completed Accredited Canadian University or College with a minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Social Sciences or Business Administration and 2-3 years recent and relevant experience working with the low income / marginalized clients and the ability to treat clients in a way which is non-judgemental and without bias. Ability to work with community agencies and collaborators.

Work Experience

: Capable of working both on own initiative and in a team environment, support clients who are experiencing homelessness, and / or emotional / social / behavioral difficulties. Proven interpersonal and communication skills. Working knowledge of Windows, Excel, Internet and standard office equipment is essential.

Knowledge:

Recent and relevant working knowledge of the Social Services, Community Agencies and Housing Related Programs. Current knowledge of best practice models, including: Housing First, Harm Reduction, Knowledge of housing and homelessness issues in Windsor-Essex preferred. Knowledge of CHR, BNL, and Rent Supplement guidelines, knowledge of transitional and permanent housing resources, including social housing and housing with supports, throughout Windsor-Essex an asset. Ability to speak other languages an asset.

: Able to deal with frequent change, delays, multiple requests (phone & in-person), high volume of requests, while addressing written tasks, unexpected event etc.

Spoken and Written Communications

: Able to clearly present information through the spoken word (telephone & in-person) and in writing and to document activities; to read and interpret written information; listen well.

Interaction:Able to communicate with others in a warm and helpful manner while simultaneously building credibility and rapport. Awareness and sensitivity to clients experiencing homelessness as well as the needs of the vulnerable sector an asset.

Organization and Planning: Attention to detail when completing tasks with excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload. Provides regular reports regarding activities and housing outcomes.

Problem Solving: Able to assist in ensuring housing goals are met. Ability to provide excellent co-ordination, consultation, interpersonal, negotiation / mediation, facilitation, creative problem solving, critical analysis and information synthesis skills.

Safety: Demonstrates skill around personal safety, de-escalation of clients and ability to advocate for responsible harassment free behaviour. Criminal Reference and Vulnerable Sector Checks required. Non-violent Crisis Intervention certification an asset. Updated CPR and First Aid Certification required.

Relevant Work

Saturday-Sunday 8 Hour Shifts between the hours of 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
