Position:

Full Time Community Support Coordinator fluent in Tamil (Vacant Position)

Program:

Community Support Program. Job Location may change based on Association's needs.

Hours:

40 hours per week. Hours must be flexible to meet the needs of the team, the people receiving support and their families.

Salary:

Starting from$60,665.64 per annum plus benefits as per Organization's policy

Position Summary



The Community Support Coordinator is responsible for providing individualized, person-centred support to individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families. The role focuses on intake, planning, advocacy, and connecting individuals to organizational and community-based supports and resources. Coordinators build trusting relationships with individuals and families, support access to developmental, educational, recreational, health, and financial services, and promote inclusion across the community.

The Coordinator works collaboratively with community partners, schools, and stakeholders to advance inclusive opportunities and support successful transitions. The role also involves developing creative programming options, supporting alternative funding initiatives, increasing public awareness through speaking engagements, and promoting the services of Community Living York South. Coordinators support self-advocacy, facilitate networking opportunities, and actively contribute to community education, capacity building, and organizational initiatives. Moreover, Coordinators coordinate and facilitate educational and self-help workshops, support the planning and daily operations of respite services including summer camp programming, and ensure programs are delivered effectively and inclusively.

Administrative responsibilities, project work, and active participation as a collaborative, values-driven team member are integral to the role.

Key Responsibilities



Complete intake processes and connect individuals and families to appropriate organizational and community resources Build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with individuals and families Assist individuals and families in accessing developmental services, including accommodation, education, recreation, day supports, respite, financial supports, and health services Liaise with and develop partnerships with community organizations, schools, and local businesses to promote inclusion and opportunities Provide guidance and collaborate with individuals and families to develop creative and individualized programming options Assist with the development of verbal and written proposals for alternative funding opportunities Produce accurate, timely, and comprehensive reports as required by the Organization and Funders Promote awareness of Community Living York South services and supports within the community Support individuals and families with advocacy skills and facilitate networking opportunities through forums and workshops focused on education, self-help, and systems change Collaborate with elementary and secondary schools to support planning and transitions and promote inclusive educational opportunities Complete required administrative duties and participate in projects as directed by the Supervisor Actively demonstrate organizational values and contribute as a proactive, collaborative team member

Qualifications and Skills



Values-driven individual with a commitment to inclusion and person-centred practice Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Developmental Service Worker, Social Service Worker, or equivalent education and relevant experience Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent is required Fluency in Tamil is mandatory Valid G Class Driver's License with access to a reliable vehicle Previous experience supporting individuals of varying ages and abilities One to two years of experience in the developmental services sector considered an asset Demonstrated knowledge of developmental services sector core competencies Strong leadership skills with the ability to model, guide, and mentor colleagues Ability to foster independence and self-advocacy in others Excellent advocacy, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills Demonstrated experience in community development and capacity building Proficiency in MS Office, Adobe InDesign, and internet research tools Flexibility to travel throughout the Southern York Region (Markham, Richmond Hill, Thornhill, Stouffville, and Vaughan) Knowledge of fundraising and special events coordination Ability to facilitate and coordinate workshops and engage in project-based work Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and public-speaking skills with strong attention to detail
