As a valuable member of the Conversion department at MLSE, you will be responsible for delivering championship service throughout the organization. Under the direction of the Conversions Manager and Assistant Manager, you will be expected to perform routine duties and complete tasks associated with the day-to-day activities of the conversion department within building operations group.

This includes, but is not limited to the scheduling, supervision and coordination of all staff, and facility readiness for event presentation for BMO Field and Coca Cola Coliseum.

The successful candidate must be able to work evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays as the event calendar requires.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee arena conversions and event operations for the department including but not limited to managing daily event checklists, creating unionized staff task lists, hosting shift briefings and responding to facility labor requests.
  • Learning and understanding detail-oriented manual labour procedures in a fast-paced work environment
  • Assist with overseeing third party vendors, preventative maintenance contracts, long term planning, shipping logistics and human resource activities.
  • Support, coordinate, and schedule required training for all facility services staff including but not limited to forklift, ice resurface equipment, stage building, safe work and behavioral best practices.
  • Direct supervision of up to 30 conversion staff at one time, ensuring all tasks are completed, meeting high standards and within strict time frames.
  • Appraising performance of unionized staff, while rewarding, and addressing concerns.
  • Assist with the inventory management process which includes but not limited to tools, hardware, furniture and uniforms.
  • Coordinate and communicate with other department supervisors to ensure operational support for real time fan and venue issues with a focus on health and safety and the well-being of fans and employees.
  • Key contributor in implementing standard operating procedures focused on the long-term success of the venues and wellbeing of mechanical equipment.
  • Monitor, create and close work orders on the internal work order management software.
  • Oversee the install and dismantle of conversion equipment, including but not limited to staging, hockey dashers and glass, concert curtain, retractable seating, concert chair set/strike, stage barricade to name a few.
  • Collaborate with event coordinators in setting up and tear down of conference rooms, catering, premium spaces and dressing rooms before and after events.
  • Continuously review departmental needs and recommend repairs, maintenance and special projects.
  • Provide detailed shift reports, and comprehensive breakdowns for major arena events and conversions.
Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1-3 years of supervisory experience in Production/General Labour/Event Planning or equivalent combination of education and experience, within large multi-purpose arena, convention centers or warehouse work environment.
  • Ability to work overnight/holidays/weekends shifts is required, though we do respect a work-life balance.
  • Strong demonstrated leadership experience
  • Experience in planning, overseeing, and executing events.
  • Experience supervising in a unionized environment and weighing decisions with consideration to a collective bargaining agreement and Employment Standards Act
  • Ability to multi-task and handle several projects at one time both individually and within a team.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and make sound decisions while working under pressure.
  • Strong organizational skills with impeccable attention to detail and the ability to prioritize work activities effectively and use time efficiently.
  • Possess a professional demeanor and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and external contacts.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (including, SharePoint, OneDrive, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
