Job Purpose

The Painter is responsible for ongoing maintenance and repair of coated services, components, furnishings, and equipment, in a variety of facilities throughout Manitoba. Effective skills in surface repairs and restoration are a significant requirement of this position. Work is undertaken in a team environment in various shifts, depending on the needs of the core business and its support functions.


Job Responsibilities

Conduct visual checks in all areas (inside and outside) for any damages (chips, dents, touch-ups, etc.) Repair walls and ceilings, and other coated surfaces, as required. Perform touch ups and painting as required. Paint wood, masonry, wallboard, plaster, concrete, stucco and metal. Repair and stain wood surfaces. Select/apply finishes to surfaces and complete decorative installations. Match and apply fabric or vinyl products to ceilings and walls. Maintain paint, stain and other supplies inventory, quantities, safety data sheets and expiry dates of supplies. Ensure paint codes log for all colors/areas are kept up to date. Coordinate and oversee contractors' activities to ensure painting tasks/projects are completed properly. Ensure that work is completed at a time which allows for sufficient drying prior to public access. Assist Facilities Technicians or other trades personnel for urgent/time sensitive tasks. Clean-up work area on an ongoing basis. Dispose of old paint stock in an environmentally way, as required. Paint and touch up artistic themed elements. Review work orders for any requests requiring action and schedule according to severity or as directed. Input work orders as completed into the system. Liaise with staff in occupied areas being painted to gain access to offices, etc. For restricted areas, schedule painting projects with appropriate staff and Security. Liaise with Facility Planner regarding color and theme selections. Support and comply with policies, procedures, practices and Corporate Responsibility commitments. Complete any required courses and video training. Other related duties as assigned

Primary Qualifications

Completion of a Grade XII High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Journeyperson designation in painting is preferred. If successful candidate does not have Journeyperson designation, they will be required to achieve Journeyperson designation within 3 years. A minimum of five years painting experience. The ability to work at heights. Certification in Forklift, Scissor lift, Boom lift training and other safety related training, which may be acquired on the job. Basic skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook). Have and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License. Experience with artistic painting is an asset. WHMIS/GHS must be maintained and renewed. Complete respiratory program, including fit testing and online training Must be physically capable of performing all duties of the position. Must demonstrate a good working knowledge of proper lifting techniques and able to write, follow and supervise others compliance towards established safe work procedures for material handling and storage practices, etc. The core competencies for this position include achieving quality results, adaptability/managing change, communication, customer service, decision making and problem solving, integrity and building trust, teamwork and cooperation and valuing diversity. These competencies are deemed important for the success of the position and organization. Satisfactory history of work performance is a requirement.

Vacation



Accrue up to 10 paid vacation days per year during the first 2 years of employment. Accrue 15 paid vacation days per year after 3 years of employment. Accrue 20 paid vacation days per year after 5 years of employment. Accrue 25 paid vacation days per year after 9 years of employment. Accrue 30 paid vacation days per year after 19 years of employment.
