We are looking for a Formulation Development Chemist who will support the development, optimization, scale-up, and technology transfer of stable pharmaceutical formulations and their associated manufacturing processes. The role contributes to making products suitable for commercial production, product launch, and commercialization. Projects may involve both internal and external customers.



This position is based in Cambridge, Ontario, on-site.



Responsibilities:



Provide technical leadership within the pharmaceutical development team and contribute to cross-functional project teams

Develop complex liquid and/or semi-solid formulations and scalable manufacturing processes

Source APIs and excipients in compliance with regulatory requirements

Design and conduct formulation and packaging development studies

Manufacture pharmaceutical development lab batches, including:



Weighing, mixing, and blending raw materials

Recording observations and proposing process improvements

Performing physical testing (pH, temperature, gas levels, pressure, dimensions)

Plan and execute accelerated and long-term stability studies

Set up, operate, and clean laboratory equipment (mixers, homogenizers, tanks)

Author formulation and process development protocols, reports, and batch records

Support scale-up activities and technology transfer to commercial manufacturing

Train production operators and support troubleshooting during scale-up and production

Provide technical support during manufacturing of stability batches

Investigate process issues in existing formulations and recommend improvements

Participate in customer project meetings and technical discussions

Ensure compliance with GMP, regulatory, quality, and safety requirements

Contribute to SOP development for formulation laboratories

Perform other related duties as required



Requirements:



B.Sc. in Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutics, Chemical Engineering, or related field

Master's degree or PhD is an asset

Minimum 2 years of experience in a pharmaceutical formulation laboratory

Experience with formulation, packaging, and process development of liquid and/or semi-solid dosage forms

Good understanding of regulatory requirements

Experience managing multiple projects in parallel

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Clear written and verbal communication

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Strong time-management and prioritization skills

Experience working in self-directed team environments



Working Conditions



Repetitive laboratory work

Regular lifting, pushing, and pulling of laboratory materials and equipment

Prolonged periods of sitting and standing

Sustained visual focus for computer work and document review



Expected Compensation Range:



50K-100K per year. The final compensation offered will be determined based on the candidate's level of experience, skills, and qualifications, in compliance with applicable pay transparency requirements.



Canadian Experience Requirement:



No Canadian work experience is required for this position. Candidates are encouraged to apply regardless of previous Canadian experience.
