The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Bureau Commander, Investigation and Support Bureau are seeking a qualified individual to join the Forensic Identification Support Services. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will provide investigational forensic laboratory support to Forensic Identification Services by detecting, examining, recording, collecting and preserving physical, biological and/or other trace evidence on exhibits obtained by, or submitted to, Forensic Identification Services.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is one of North America\'s largest deployed police services with more than 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,400 civilian employees and 830 Auxiliary officers. Forensic services encompass the examination and analysis of crime scene exhibits and other evidence for the purpose of establishing identification, developing physical evidence and the eventual presentation of these findings in a court of law.

Forensic Identification Services provides investigative support through the forensic examination of scenes and documenting for the purposes of identification, collecting and preserving of evidence.

What can I expect to do in this role?

To provide investigational forensic laboratory support to Forensic Identification Services by detecting, examining, recording, collecting and preserving physical, biological and/or other trace evidence on exhibits obtained by, or submitted to, Forensic Identification Services. To ensure the laboratory facilities and all equipment and materials contained therein are maintained to current Ministry Standards.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.
Must possess a valid Ontario Driver\'s Licence.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Practical knowledge of Forensic Sciences, specifically forensic chemical processing techniques. Experience with forensic equipment such as Cyanoacrylate Fuming Chambers, Drying chambers etc. an asset.

Knowledge of Health and Safety Regulations (WHMIS) as they pertain to coming into contact with biohazards and chemicals in the lab. Knowledge of biohazard and chemical lab procedures. Knowledge of relevant chemistry to ensure proper storage and safe handling.

Knowledge of Rules of Evidence, of policy and procedures to ensure the security and continuity of exhibits being received and returned.

Practical knowledge of photography and DSLR cameras for the purpose of photographing evidence under a variety of lighting conditions including laser light, the use of lens filters to document evidence under alternative light conditions.

Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with Forensic Identification Service personnel to manage competing priorities and deadlines.

Ability to act appropriately and within acceptable legislative requirements in event of chemical spill.

Written communication skills to prepare correspondence, reports and charts.

Oral communication skills to interact with other section employees and stakeholders.

Planning organizing and coordinating skills to manage multiple projects/tasks concurrently.

Ability to use computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite.
