About the role!
The structural integrity of a building or house has been compromised. They want to know why. Using your knowledge and expertise in Civil and Structural engineer, you will unravel the intricacies of failures, and in some cases, provide recommendations on how to put things back together \xe2\x80\x93 the right way!
Seeing a technical investigation through from beginning to end from initially collecting the evidence on site to preparing the final technical report and ultimately giving expert evidence in Court if needed.
The position requires not only a thorough understanding of the nature and behavior of steel, concrete and most importantly wood structures but also a strong engineering knowledge base.
These investigations will usually be undertaken for insurance related purposes, including international insurers, loss or claim adjusters, solicitors, and insurance brokers.
The quest!

  • As a forensic expert, you\'ll be solving some of the most peculiar and perplexing cases that come our way. No mystery is too small or too big for you to handle.
  • Visiting sites, taking pictures, videos, samples, readings, and other helpful information from the scene, and meeting interesting people.
  • Conducting interviews with witnesses and other stakeholders using your amazing social skills.
  • Gathering and analyzing data and evidence and coming up with compelling reports that are easy to understand for non-technical audience.
  • Collaborating with your colleagues to solve multi-disciplinary cases.
  • Writing detailed reports for clients to walk them through your investigation and evidence-based conclusion. Some cases may keep you busy working out estimates for remedial works.

What\xe2\x80\x99s in your bag?
  • University degree in Civil/ Structural Engineering
  • P.Eng. designation is a big plus
  • 3-8 years of relevant experience (e.g., structural failures analysis, investigations, construction, maintenance, buildings inspection, and conditions assessments, of commercial and residential properties. Strong knowledge of relevant Codes and Standards
  • Wood structures experience is a must.
  • Building envelope experience
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • A keen eye for detail, a sharp wit, and a sense of humor that can brighten up people around you.
  • Ability to use cutting edge time management skills and manage multiple projects at the same time.
  • Excellent synthesis, analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • A deep understanding of the power of laughter and its ability to make even the toughest of cases seem less daunting.
