The Opportunity
The
Shoring Foreman
is responsible for supervising and coordinating daily activities of the crews, working with the Superintendent to plan work and ensure all resources (people, materials, and equipment) are in place each day.
Duties & Responsibilities
Work safely in a construction site and promote a safe work environment adhering to safety policies and procedures including conducting and participating in safety meetings. Visibly promote health and safety in the workplace through actions, example, and attitude
Complete work on budget, on schedule and to the required level of quality with the mentality of "do it right the first time"
Provide direction to the crews at the beginning of each day and keep the crews updated and on track with the daily schedule, providing advice and guidance
Work with the crew, client, and superintendent to understand upcoming requirements and communicate with the Dispatcher in organizing the daily activities of the job
Responsible for training and development of crews - get out of truck and site office to be present on site with the crews
Ensure forward planning in the ordering of materials and setting up sub-contractors. At minimum all materials for the upcoming 2-3 days should already be on site.
Responsible for communicating job progress, site instructions, stripping depth, incidents, etc.
Ensure BC1 call is up-to-date and communicated with crews
Ensure pre-locate are performed for all existing utilities that may conflict with job site activities
Attend meetings to discuss job production, schedule, conflicts and provide updates to crews
Ensure accurate and daily reporting of timecards and extra work orders are provided to head office
Organize and complete an inventory of materials and ensure all site tools are secured at the end of each day
Understand and support full compliance with Mainland Safety Management Plan (SMP) requirements by all employees and sub-contractors
Qualifications, Experience & Skillset
2-5 years' experience as a Lead Hand or Foreman, and a solid understanding of all aspects of shoring works
Must have experience and a thorough knowledge of shoring projects from start to finish
Ability review plans
Able to support and work with all members of the crew, keep them motivated and assist with crew responsibilities as needed
Must have an ability to interact in a profession manner with clients and members of the public
Able to identify all hazards associated with various aspects of working in excavation/shoring projects, as well as correctly communicate safety issues as they arise
First aid, confined space, and fall protection training is an asset
Must be physically fit, able to spend most or all of shift standing, walking, lifting, carrying, and working hands-on in an outdoor environment in all types of weather
Flexible with hours worked, including overtime and weekend work as needed
Willingness to learn and have a good work ethic
Must possess valid Class 5 Drivers License
What we offer
Unionized base wage of $42.53 per hour (wage subject to negotiation based on candidate's experience), plus 12.5% of gross earnings for vacation / statutory holiday pay.
