Job Description

The Foreman's role will be to meet the clients contract requirements to remove invasive plants such as but not limited to, English Ivy, Scotch Broom, Giant Hogweed, Yellow Archangel, Periwinkle, etc. from park natural areas such as forests and meadows. Work may also include the removal of small areas of Himalayan Blackberry. The removal of plants will be done by hand using non-motorized or motorized hand tools.

Field Skills Required:

(a) strong skills in reading and understanding drawings and maps;

(b) working knowledge on the use of a variety of equipment, power and hand tools;

(c) understanding of B.C. Landscape Standards for natural area maintenance and construction;

(d) strong knowledge of native and invasive plant identification; and

(e) strong knowledge of best management practices for invasive plant removal.

Education Required:

(a) Completion of grade 12, supplemented by successful completion of five additional relevant courses from an approved post-secondary education institution in any of the following course areas:

Biology Urban land management Ecology Conservation Wildlife management, plus, a minimum of 2 years of recent experience in the management of natural areas.
OR

(b) Completion of Grade 12 and a Technical Certificate Program (one year full-time) from an approved post-secondary institution relating to natural area management supplemented by 18 months of recent experience in the management of natural areas.

OR

(c) Completion of a diploma program relating to natural area management from an approved post-secondary institution, with a minimum of 6 months recent experience in the management of natural areas
