This is a Permanent Term Position, there are on and off duty months that varies from year to year.

Position Summary


This position is responsible for performing a number of kitchen related activities including pot washing, dishwashing and general cleaning duties in accordance with all HAACP policies and procedures for Asian Culinary Arts.


Duties & Responsibilities


Ensure supplies of chinaware, napkins and service trays for Asian service in cafeteria.

Set up for pot washing; Ensure that the area is clean at all times and the floor is free from grease.

Keep walk-in coolers and walk-in freezer clean and arrange the stored items in an orderly manner.

Keep the food wagons, storage racks, pot racks, etc. clean.

Collect used pots, pans trays, kitchen equipment and other utensils from the kitchen and bring them to the washing area; Scrapes items to be washed and places dishes, trays, glasses and silverware in dishwashing machine.

Wash, dry and distribute them into designated area and arrange them in an orderly manner.

Leaves the dish washing area clean at the end of the shift and ensures that the area including the floor, food wagons, storage racks, pot racks, sinks, counters and dishwashing machine are clean at all times.

Maintain good communication with the instructor in the kitchen.

Deliver food and beverage functions as directed; may serve at counter, if required.

Perform other general cafeteria duties.

Demonstrate a positive attitude and be willing to learn.

Wears uniforms when on duty.

Attends food service department staff meetings.

Performs other related duties as required.




Qualifications


Education and Experience

Completion of Grade 10. Basic related experience of one to three months. Knowledge of kitchen and food service operations. FOODSAFE Level 1. An equivalent combination of training and/or experience may be substituted for the required qualifications.

Skills and Abilities

The ability to learn assigned tasks and readily perform them in accordance with established procedures. Understand and follow simple oral and written instructions. Perform repetitive manual tasks and physical activity for extended periods. Establish and maintain a good working relationship with students, staff, faculty, and the public. Have knowledge of cleaning of general equipment, utensils, special Asian implements and appliances, i.e. wok range, barbecue oven, bamboo steamers, etc. and a basic knowledge of public cafeteria service. Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty and the public. Ability to handle challenging situations with tact and diplomacy and maintain a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or stress. Good oral and written English communications skills. Good organizational skills. Stellar attendance and punctuality. Positive attitude and willingness to learn. Neat personal appearance.




Salary Range - Prorated based on FTE


PAYGRADE 14 - $24.91 to $28.76 hourly rate ($1,744 to $2,013 biweekly based on 1.0 FTE)
