The Position: In support of the Vision, Mission and Values of LutherCare Communities, we are seeking a Food Services Supervisor to join our team. This position will be responsible for the overall operation of the central kitchen, the Food Services Supervisor\'s duties include supervisory, budgeting, inventory control and quality control. Accountabilities of the Food Services Supervisor includes:

  • Recruit, hire, orientate, schedule, direct, supervise, evaluate and discipline employees of the department
  • Plan staffing within budget allocation
  • Cook on the line
  • Abide by the Saskatchewan Labour Standards Act and LutherCare Communities personnel policies
  • Continuously review spending and ensure compliance within the budget guidelines
  • Be familiar with all emergency plans and procedures and ensure the staff are familiar with their duties
  • Working supervisor and act as a relief for all positions supervised (cook, dishwasher, server, etc.)
  • Monitor inventory and order kitchen supplies and food as needed
  • Ensure menus are adequate and updated periodically to meet the dietary needs of an aging population
  • Ensure a cleaning and preventative maintenance schedule is in place for the kitchen
  • Demonstrate a high standard of personal hygiene
  • Standardize and develop new recipes
  • Ensure meal is served in a professional manner
  • Cooperate in meeting licensing requirements
  • Interpret, advise and ensure compliance with applicable employment legislation
  • Abide by WHMIS legislation and Food Safe training.
  • Abide by Policies and Procedures of LutherCare Communities
  • Complete other job-related tasks as assigned by the Supervisor

The Applicants: Applicants would qualify for this position through the completion of secondary education, with a preference given to those that have completed qualifications for journeyman cook, a minimum of three years experience in a commercial kitchen setting, supervisory experience, budgeting experience, and experience with inventory control and menu development. Experience working with seniors is an asset. Successful applicants must have Food Safe Certificate and WHMIS training. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Fluently able to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Excellent administrative, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Effectively manages time, and priorities while positively responding to multiple interruptions throughout the day
  • Knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment, utensils and computers
  • Ability to accurately measure inventory levels
  • Knowledge of eating disorders and medical diet restrictions
  • Effective skills in human resource management and supervision
  • Effectively demonstrates sound judgement in decision making and problem solving
  • Successfully demonstrates sensitivity, patience and concern in providing quality service to residents
  • Consistently remains calm in an emergency and take decisive action
