Northwood Halifax is currently accepting applications for
Food Services Supervisor.
Reporting to the Manager, Food and Nutrition Services, the Food Services Supervisor provides supervision and performance management to staff, ensuring adherence to work routines and care standards.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for meal distribution, delivery, presentation, and all aspects of cleaning/sanitization in Service areas as well as food preparation, food safety, ware washing, and sanitation in the Production area.
Supervises the preparation, and set up and ensures prompt service of all meals to the residents of Northwood and ancillary services.
Tests all foods to be served to the residents for taste, texture, and temperature (pre-service) and initiate corrective action and follow up as appropriate and assures that all items are available when required for an efficient meal service.
Ensures that the special diets and supplements are received by all residents, reporting any concerns regarding dietary intake to the dietitian.
Acts as a resource to clinical dietitians, monitors and assists with resident care plans
Assures that designated portion control and distribution are maintained at all times
Assists in the special function area with assembly and arrangement of food items for special occasions, meals on wheels or special functions as required
Performs physical inventory as needed
Allocates and ensures effective use of materials, small wares, foods and equipment to maintain operational needs
Supervises all cleanup and sanitation procedures carried out by staff reporting to them
Assures proper food handling techniques and adherence to standards ensuring service quality, completes daily sanitation meal service and quality assurance reports
Ensures proper care, sanitation and maintenance of all equipment, and promptly reports any equipment malfunctions to the Physical Plant
Ensures appropriate usage and storage of chemicals and compliance with WHMIS standards
Provides input to and prepares drafts in the formulation of departmental policies, procedures, and work routines
Provides input in new product selection and purchases
Maintains knowledge of acts, codes, collective agreements, and regulations to ensure a safe food service operation
Ensures compliance with department standards, work routines, job requirements, and time schedules of all staff providing leadership, counseling, and direction as necessary
Responsible for the training and orientation of new staff
Identifies areas of need and conducts in-service education for food services personnel
Maintains key horizontal and vertical relationships throughout the department
Maintains recipe binders, communication binders, and worksheets
Assesses the work capabilities and job performance of staff being supervised, and conducts performance management and appraisals
Holds regular meetings with line staff and fellow supervisors to problem solve, share information, and design procedure
Assists with or performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Diploma or degree from a recognized program in Food Service and Nutrition Management (three to five years of relevant work experience will be considered if no college diploma in Food and Nutrition Management)
Advanced Food Safety Certificate
Must be eligible for membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management, current membership is considered an asset
Knowledge of special diets and long-term care experience and/or general nutritional care for the elderly is considered an asset
Able to lift to 50lbs at a time
Able to maintain regular and consistent attendance
Assists with or performs other related duties as assigned
Hours of Work: 52 hours
