Job Description

Job Purpose



To support the day-to-day operations of the Thrive Food Security department with the goal of increasing food security and social inclusion for older adults in the community.

Key Responsibilities:



Primary Responsibilities



Work closely with the Manager and food security team to run the day-to-day operations of the programs, specifically the Unison Market, Calgary's only senior-specific food bank. Complete program intakes with seniors experiencing food insecurity and social isolation, in person and by phone. Support with referrals to Unison programs and community resources. Enter client information into program database, ensuring accuracy and supporting program efficiencies. Provide guidance to volunteers supporting food security efforts. Ensure all accreditation standards and procedures are being followed and implemented. Support the service delivery of other food security programs, as needed.

Assist with the day-to-day operations of the program, including:
- Client intake and resource navigation

- Complete required documentation and support file management

- Support food receiving, preparation and distribution, as needed.

Implementation of food safety procedures at the on-site food storage and in the Unison Market, as needed.

Other duties

:

Assist with any other tasks, as assigned by the Manager, or other departments with the approval of the Manager

Qualifications:



Education

- Degree or Diploma in a human services field

Experience & Knowledge:

- At least 1 year of experience in a related field, with a focus on trauma-informed and client-centred approaches preferred

- Knowledgeable about community resources and skilled in providing resource navigation and support

- Basic knowledge of safe food handling preferred but not required (training will be provided)

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and computer applications

Other skills:

- Commitment to addressing food insecurity and helping older adults in need

- Customer service skills, including empathy, compassion and cultural sensitivity

- Good communication skills and the ability to interact with diverse groups of people

- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

- Ability to work effectively in a team environment, as well as individually, as needed

- Work as a team within Unison at Kerby Centre and with all community partners

- Vehicle preferred (as per Policy 3210 is responsible for communicating with own car insurance provider and ensuring the proper level of coverage is provided for driving for work)

Working Conditions:



- Work is primarily on-site at Kerby Centre; however, it may also require working in the community, at client homes, or picking up food donations.

- This is a full-time position working 35 hours/week Monday to Friday.

- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, walk up/downstairs, lift and carry up to 35 lbs., and perform repetitive tasks.

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 3 months

Pay: $23.50 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week

Work Location: In person
