Key Roles and Responsibilities
Manage food safety performance encompassing all retail operations.
Develop and manage KPI's specific to program objectives and performance.
Develop strategies aimed to improve program objectives, internal and retail compliance improvements.
Co-develop standardization programs specific to internal and 3P food safety assessments.
Build team: Recruit, interview, and train Food Safety Specialists.
Support as a liaison with client and regulatory partners.
Monitor direct reports' performance and conduct comprehensive performance evaluations and improvement plans, where applicable.
Develop and maintain productive partnerships with respective internal operation teams, industry and regulatory leads.
Partner in program developments such as, but not limited to, internal/SSOP inspection template, food safety assessments standardization, training, etc.
Participate in respective industry, contractor, and regulatory events not limited to:
o Client-specific quarterly food safety performance review
o Local and province-wide meetings and conferences
o Food Safety Advisory Councils
o Regulatory Regional Symposiums
Coordinate, present/participate in Food Safety Refresher trainings.
Manage new store openings with respect to preparation for regulatory inspections and compliance alignment.
Provide immediate support to matters or urgency such as recall destruction and verification tasks at retail level.
Support with other food safety program needs such as, but not limited to, variance submissions, regulatory hearings, product (sushi rice) laboratory analysis, etc.
Guide and manage direct reports to ensure compliance with other company policies such as travel, inspection planning, action plans, training, etc.
Generate and present weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual performance and completion reports.
Monitor, and report, regulatory legislation updates specific to areas of coverage.
Up to 75% [domestic and international] travel
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor's degree in related science/discipline (Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Public Health, Environmental Health, etc.)
Active credential in one or more: CP-FS, REHS, RS
ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification
ServSafe Food Allergen Certification
ServSafe Food Protection Manager Proctor/Trainer
Seafood HACCP Certification
Expert comprehension of food safety legislation specific to the following provinces: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario
Diligent and highly organized
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Public speaking.
Satisfactory food safety performance or external equivalence
Must maintain driver license in good standing.
Able to travel by car and air
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
