High School, College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years or equivalent experience an asset. Safe Food handling certification an asset.
The YMCA of Cumberland provides a weekly lunch to the community out of 92 Church St. Amherst NS. This program operates on donations from our lunch guests, local businesses, and other fundraising efforts. Along with providing a weekly meal, we provide low-cost groceries to community partners, with the intention of providing low-cost food boxes to community members. There are also weekly food donations from a local grocery store that will require to be picked up and processed one day each week.
This position requires the following activities to be carried out:
- Plan, execute, and serve a community meal for roughly 40 people every Wednesday
- Planning meals in advance, shopping for groceries, preparing and serving the meal, and cleaning the kitchen and community room
- Food safety training required (can be facilitated)
- Coordinating food orders from community partners
- Receive, sort, and track orders for each community partner
- Provide billing information to direct supervisor for invoicing
- Pick up and processing of donated groceries
- Plan and implement food-focused programs and events
- Other duties as required
Communication with the Community Development Manager will be expected to organize groceries, and any other purchases needed to support community kitchen. The ideal candidate will be mindful of the high cost of food, and able to create meals within budget constraints.
