Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Floor Covering Installer to join our construction team. The ideal candidate will have experience in flooring installation, tile laying, and related construction tasks. This role involves preparing surfaces, measuring and cutting materials, and ensuring accurate installation of various flooring types. Candidates with a background in construction estimating, blueprint reading, and the use of hand and power tools will excel in this position. The successful applicant will contribute to high-quality flooring projects, including remodeling, restoration, and new installations across diverse settings.

Responsibilities

Inspect, measure and mark surfaces to be covered Measure, cut and fasten underlay and underpadding Measure, cut and install carpeting using hand or machine stitcher, seaming iron, bonding tape or other bonding materials Stretch carpeting using knee-kicker or power stretcher and secure carpeting to floor or other surfaces using staple gun or other devices Measure, cut and install resilient floor covering using adhesive, rollers and other hand tools Install hardwood floors, such as strip floors, block floors or plank floors, using glue, staples, nails or other means Inspect and repair damaged floor coverings May estimate material and labour costs

Tasks

Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine work requirements Prepare flooring plans and scheduling Measure, cut and install carpeting on floors Prepare tenders and quotations Measure, cut and install resilient floor coverings Prepare and install hardwood floors Inspect and repair damaged floor coverings Conduct moisture, ph, temperature and other tests prior to flooring installations Estimate costs and materials Prepare floors for installations Remove existing floor coverings and contaminants Perform direct glue-down carpet installations Perform double-bond carpet installations Install outdoor carpets Install materials on counter tops and raised platforms

Requirements

Education:

Secondary (high) school graduation certificate

Experience

: 1 year to less than 2 years in same occupation or similar
