Sustainable Blue is a land-based aquaculture facility located in Centre Burlington, Hants County, Nova Scotia. We grow Atlantic salmon using a proprietary water treatment technology which emits zero waste back to the environment. Our farm is comprised of both freshwater and saltwater buildings, where we raise our salmon from egg to market weight. The farm operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Job Title:
Fish Transfer Technician
(multiple positions available)
The Fish Transfer Technician works as part of a small team responsible for transferring fish within and between our production buildings (e.g. transferring fish using pumps and pipelines and/or nets; harvesting; grading fish; etc). This position reports directly to our Fish Movements Officer.
Responsibilities:
Preparation for fish transfer activities: entering tanks to clean, preparing tanks and systems to receive fish, manually altering pipework configuration, harvest set-up activities including filling totes with water, forklift use
Carrying out fish transfer activities: direct handling of fish, manual control of fish pumps during fish transfers, monitoring water quality parameters such as dissolved oxygen during fish moves
All clean-up associated with fish transfer activities: removal of mortalities, disinfection of pipes and grading areas, ensuring spaces are free of all gear used during the fish move
Prompt verbal reporting of any fish health and/or safety concerns to Fish Movements Officer in order to minimize stress to fish during transfers
Required Experience & Skills:
A demonstrated interest in working with fish or salmonids (preferred)
Capable of taking part in physical, labour-intensive tasks including repetitive lifting up to 50lbs, bending, and standing for long periods of time
Demonstrated ability to following instructions and complete tasks as communicated by direct supervisor(s)
Care and attention to detail in dealing with living creatures
Training & Certification:

Schedule:
Monday - Friday 08:00 to 16:30. Hours may change according to production requirements, with every effort to remain within the 40-hour work week. Any overtime worked is compensated. Working through public holidays is a requirement of the job.
Remuneration:
$50,000 p.a. paid bi-weekly, less statutory deductions.
Benefits
The company has a medical benefit plan in place where the company and the employee share plan costs on a 50/50 basis. New staff are required to serve a three-month probationary period before being eligible to join the plan.
