LINE COOK Full-Time, Seasonal The Annex is a standout restaurant, bar, and event space in Inverness, Nova Scotia; a seaside town on the western side of Cape Breton Island. Our culinary team\xe2\x80\x99s contemporary Maritime cuisine features delicious scratch-made food that showcases local products in novel but approachable ways; elevated comfort food with plenty of fresh seafood and seasonal produce is where our menu shines. Our close relationships with local fishers, farmers, purveyors, and artisans provides intimate access to Cape Breton\xe2\x80\x99s bountiful offering. The restaurant\xe2\x80\x99s dining room seats 38 at table and an additional 11 around our social bar space. A spacious deck offers the opportunity to extend service up an additional 75 guests in good weather. Finally, our fully-licensed lawn space provides a memorable setting for pre- or post-dinner drinks, as well as offering the potential for larger-scale special events. The Annex is a warm, welcoming space with a focus on noteworthy quality that carries throughout the entire guest experience. The Annex is looking to hire a LINE COOK who is a reliable, detail-oriented support to the Head Chef. All candidates must come with a desire to learn, must have a professional approach to work, and ability to work well within a team. The ideal candidate must have previous kitchen experience and be motivated by the desire to progress in the food and beverage industry. Inverness, Nova Scotia is a rural town of about 1,300 people on the west coast of Cape Breton Island. A vibrant summertime destination for many, the area hosts gorgeous sandy beaches with the warmest Atlantic waters north of the Carolinas, innumerable hiking trails, a strong home-grown music culture, and is home to the globally-ranked golf courses of Cabot Cape Breton. In winter, the area quiets down significantly, making time for community building, sitting by the fire, card playing, and winter-sports (including over 1000km of snowmobiling trails). The area is ideal for individuals and families who enjoy outdoor activities and nature. Job Responsibilities: - Set up and stock workstations with all necessary supplies - Perform portion control and minimize waste to keep cost within forecasted range - Ensure that all dishes are prepared in a timely manner by restocking ingredients at workstation and meeting prep time to ensure smooth delivery - Collaborate with other members of the kitchen team to ensure simultaneous completion of orders - Maintain a clean and organized workstation, including kitchen equipment, tables, and shelves - Comply with applicable sanitary, health, and personal hygiene standards - Ensure quality and freshness of products at delivery and when preparing for guests - Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Head Chef and Business Owner - Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers Qualifications/Skills: - Demonstrated knowledge of culinary techniques and practices - Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices - Skilled in various cooking methods; grilling, frying, saut\xc3\xa9ing - Proficient in other culinary skills such as chopping, preparing mise en place, etc. - Strong knife skills and workable knowledge of kitchen equipment - Solid understanding of standard measurements and portions - Energetic with a passion for food and a positive outlook - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks - Strong attention to detail and ability to follow recipes accurately - Able to follow oral and written instructions - Must exhibit a high degree of professionalism; (i.e., punctuality, dedication, mannerly) - Excellent communication and teamwork skills; camaraderie with all team members, BOH and FOH - Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift heavy objects as needed Education and Experience Requirements: - Degree/Diploma in Culinary Arts, Baking & Pastry, or equivalent work experience is an asset - 2+ years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in high-volume kitchens is an asset Why Work For US: - Positive, respectful, professional work environment - Participate in restaurant\xe2\x80\x99s weighted tip pool (creates additional hourly pay) - Guaranteed two successive days off a week - We aim for a 40 hour work week - Vacation pay, overtime pay - Training and certification opportunities - Opportunity for Health Care benefits - Assistance locating housing available - Employee discount on food and beverages Job Types: Full-time, Seasonal
