Global Fire Rescue Service (GFRS) is an Alberta-based Fire Service & Support agency, specializing in Wildland Urban Interface/Structure Protection. GFRS provides skilled firefighters and equipment to support International, Provincial and Industrial communities from wildfire threats.
We are currently seeking experienced firefighters in Wildland Urban Interface for 2026.
Priority will be given to applicants with field experience, but all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.

Seasonal Contract (On-Call)
Contract Length:
Up to 6 months (depending on deployment needs)
Salary:
Starting at $35/hour (dependent on qualifications and experience)
Positions Available:
20 to 30 (with potential for additional hires as needed)
Looking For:
Captain (Officer)
Required Minimum Qualifications:
WUIM-Alberta Certification (or equivalent) with experience tracker
NFPA 1010 (formerly NFPA 1001 Level I and II)
NFPA 1140 Level I (Standards for Wildland Fire Protection)
NFPA 1021 Fire Officer Level II (or Level I taking Level II)
ICS-200
Standard First Aid with CPR/AED Level C or Advanced First Aid (MFR, EMR, EMT)
Alberta HTC/CIFFCI Wildland Firefighting courses:
S-131 (Units 3,4,9,10,12,13)
S-291 (Understanding the Fire Weather Index System)
Note: GFRS will provide Alberta HTC/CIFFCI courses for candidates who do not currently hold them.
Consideration given to applicants that can provide documented experience and certificates in an Officer role.
Firefighter (Crew)
Required Minimum Qualifications:
WUIM-Alberta Certification or equivalent
NFPA 1010 (1001 Level I)
NFPA 1140 Level I (Standard for Wildland Fire Protection)
ICS I-100
Standard First Aid with CPR/AED Level C or Advanced First Aid (MFR, EMR, EMT)
Alberta HTC/CIFFCI Wildland Firefighting courses:
S-131 (Units 3,4,9,10,12,13)
S-291 (Understanding the Fire Weather Index System)
Additional Requirements:
Valid Class 5 Driver's License (minimum)

Additional Training & Certifications
Note: These certificates are not mandatory but possessing them will significantly enhance your chances of being a successful candidate. Candidates with any of the following will be given preference:
WUIB or WUIL-Alberta (or equivalent) with experience tracker.
NFPA 1002 Driver/Operator
NFPA 1021 Fire Officer Level I & II
NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor Level I & II
NFPA 472 Hazardous Materials Awareness/Operations
ICS-200 (or higher)
Medical First Responder, EMR, or EMT

Responsibilities
To provide Provincial, Municipal and Industrial Fire Service Agencies support for disaster response during a Wildland Urban Interface threat.
Maintain and operate firefighting equipment, ensuring response readiness.
Provide medical care as needed during WUI incidents.
Collaborate with other fire agencies to support the firefighting efforts.
Drive various GFRS fire apparatus, adhering to provincial motor vehicle regulations.
