The District of West Vancouver has an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled and forward-thinking leader for the position of Fire Chief. As a member of the District\xe2\x80\x99s Executive Management team, the Fire Chief reports to the Municipal Manager and provides vision, leadership, and management of Fire & Rescues Services. The Fire Chief is responsible for;

  • Directing and leading the work of the Division\xe2\x80\x99s management team by planning and directing all fire suppression, rescue, related emergency services and fire prevention operations and programs for the District,
  • Building an inclusive Department with a focus on equity, diversity and employee engagement,
  • Reaching operational decisions that support the District\xe2\x80\x99s climate action goals, including the implementation of plans and programs that will minimize wildfire risk to the community,
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with the Municipal Manager and Council by providing recommendations for policies and courses of action,
  • Developing, presenting, and maintaining a large, complex capital and operational budget to achieving the objectives of the corporate business plan and the Division,
  • Strategizing and executing short- and long-term divisional goals and objectives involving projects, business, and budget planning,
  • Establishing, promoting, and maintaining effective public relations for the Division and making public addresses, appearances, and presentations,
  • Acting as Incident Commander for emergencies and natural disasters, and responding to other emergencies as required,
  • Representing the Division in employee and labour relation matters, and
  • Participating in other duties and special projects as required.
The successful candidate will have a relevant university degree related to Fire Department or Municipal Administration or a Certificate in Business Administration from an Institute of Technology. Considerable knowledge of principles and practices, extensive experience in a progressively responsible capacity with Fire Department operations and administration, preferably as a Deputy or Assistant Fire Chief, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate will be required to supply an acceptable Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector and a copy of their credentials.




Position Status:

EXEMPT \xe2\x80\x93 Permanent Full-Time


Hours of Work:

35 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary)


Salary:

$216,200 per year (2022 rate)
