We are seeking a self-motivated Financial Specialist to guide and support our Design and Construction department with standardized processes, initiatives, and best practice reporting standards. This role requires active participation in understanding projects from financial management to real estate, with a focus on implementing process improvements. You'll play a key role in creating unity of process and execution across departments while ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting and cost controls.
Key Responsibilities
Perform and reconcile monthly accounting and capital reporting for construction projects
Develop capital budgets and cash flow projections for construction initiatives
Monitor, reconcile, and analyze capital and operating expenses for capital construction projects
Provide financial analysis and recommendations for future process improvements
Identify and analyze internal and industry trends relevant to future project costing
Train and support Project Managers with basic accounting fundamentals, cost controls, and analytic tools
Collaborate with various departments to create synergies and automation opportunities
Manage communication of project updates to internal stakeholders, ensuring accuracy and consistency
Identify and implement new process improvements, including the use of potential third-party software and AI tools
Assist senior leadership as required
Qualifications
Education & Certification:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent post-secondary program with demonstrated experience in finance or accounting
Currently enrolled in or working towards CPA designation
Experience:
3-5 years of accounting-related capital experience or relevant financial control and analysis
1-3 years of process automation experience (Power Automate, Power BI, etc.)
Experience with ERP software systems
Skills & Abilities:
In-depth knowledge of IFRS Accounting Standards
Mature self-starter with excellent communication skills
Ability to ensure timely resolution to problems and disputes
Strategic thinker and creative problem solver
Strong team player with the ability to maintain positive working relationships
Capable of meeting deadlines and working effectively in a fast-paced environment
Excellent verbal and quantitative communication skills
Work Environment
This hybrid position requires working from our Toronto office 75% of the week, with occasional site visits. The role offers a collaborative environment where you'll interact regularly with project managers, operations teams, controllers, and external consultants and contractors.
