The Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy proudly offers 14 teaching programs in a variety of areas of global expertise. As part of the University of Toronto, we are home to exceptional faculty, experts, and researchers from around the globe, and over 40 academic centres, labs, and programs. Our goal is to build a unique, world-renowned research, teaching, and public engagement centre that shapes the new field of global affairs from Canada. Our School unifies those who are passionate about global affairs to discuss the problems of a fast-changing world.

Under the general direction of the Manager, Administration & Finance, the Grants Assistant provides support to the Grants Administrator and faculty in relation to research and non-research grants/contracts within the Munk School.

This is an one year term postion with an end date on Dec 2024.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Applying the generally accepted accounting principles to all financial tasks, keeping well-informed on key University and sponsor policies and trends
  • Checking that proper approvals are obtained prior to processing transactions
  • Monitoring grant budget to ensure expenditures remain within budgeted allocations
  • Liaising with agencies, collaborators, industry sponsors, faculty and other stakeholders regarding funding applications
  • Verifying research funding proposals are complete, accurate and adhere to University guidelines and procedures, and Verifying that research accounts are processed according to sponsor and/or granting agency guidelines
  • Informing Principal Investigator of concernsor setbacks
  • Processing accounts payable according to the University Guide to Financial Management, processing expense reimbursements, and preparing and/or processing journal entries
  • Reconciling accounts, monitoring accounts and ensuringfunds are available for purchases, and generating standard financial reports
Essential Qualifications:
  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three years of recent and relevant financial experience related in managing post-award research grants and contracts.
  • Experience in aspects of accounting including payroll, account reconciliation, andpreparation of financial statements
  • Demonstrated experience using and applying general accounting principles and procedures
  • Solid work experience interpreting and applying financial policies.
  • Experience interpreting and adhering with granting agencies\' funding guidelines and policies.
  • Experience completing financial forecasting analysis.
  • Experience processing transactions in FIS.
  • Experience with University\'s Administrative Management System (e.g. FIS, HRIS, ARBOR and RIS), or other similar systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (word excel outlook).
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Strong ability to work under pressure, meet multiple deadlines, and cope with a variety of tasks.
  • Detailed orientated with demonstrated flexibility and accuracy in performing work.
  • Ability to handle matters of a sensitive and confidential nature.
  • Ability to also work independently with minimal supervision.
Assets (Nonessential):
  • A Bachelor\'s degree and/or Designation in Finance would be an asset.
