POSITION SUMMARY
We're seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to lead financial management and accounting operations for our Quebec division. The Controller will oversee all aspects of financial reporting, cost control, and compliance for ongoing construction and EPC projects, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and fiscal integrity across departments. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in construction project accounting, combined with strategic leadership in budgeting, forecasting, and financial governance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the accounting and finance function, including general ledger management, financial reporting, and internal controls.
Oversee project cost accounting, progress billings, job cost reports, and subcontractor financial management.
Develop and maintain budgeting and forecasting models, ensuring alignment with project execution strategies and corporate objectives.
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal policies.
Manage cash flow forecasting, cost-to-complete projections, and variance analyses for multiple active projects.
Supervise and mentor accounting team members, fostering accuracy and accountability across daily operations.
Coordinate annual audits and liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies.
Ensure compliance with federal and provincial tax laws, including QST/GST filings and industry-specific financial regulations.
Partner with operations, procurement, and project management teams to ensure sound financial decision-making.
Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and transparency in financial workflows.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline.
Experience:
Minimum 8-10 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, with at least 5 years in a construction or EPC environment.
Proven experience managing project accounting, financial reporting, and compliance for industrial or commercial construction projects.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency with construction accounting and ERP systems (e.g., Sage 300 CRE, Procore Financials, or Jonas Construction).
Strong understanding of GAAP, cost control systems, and project financial analysis.
Advanced knowledge of Excel, budgeting, and cash flow forecasting tools.
Soft Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high degree of accuracy.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
Strategic thinker who can balance operational detail with big-picture financial oversight.
Certifications (a plus):
CPA designation (CA, CGA, or CMA) or equivalent credential strongly preferred.
Additional certifications in construction finance, internal audit, or risk management are assets.
