We are seeking an experienced and strategic Controller to lead the financial operations of a large, multi-departmental organization headquartered in Ottawa. This role is critical in ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, optimizing financial performance, and supporting long-term business objectives. As a senior member of the finance leadership team, the Controller will oversee a broad portfolio including financial planning, compliance, risk management, and team development.
Key Responsibilities:
Insurance & Risk Oversight:
Manage all aspects of corporate insurance programs and contribute to enterprise risk management strategies.
Financial Reporting:
Lead the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with regulatory and internal standards. Ensure consistency across business units.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
Direct the annual budgeting process and long-range financial planning. Collaborate with senior leaders to align financial goals with strategic priorities.
Financial Analysis:
Deliver high-level financial insights through detailed analysis of trends, performance metrics, and cost structures. Support executive decision-making with actionable recommendations.
Cash & Treasury Management:
Oversee cash flow forecasting, liquidity planning, and treasury operations to ensure optimal capital allocation.
Internal Controls & Compliance:
Strengthen internal control frameworks and ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and corporate policies.
Tax Strategy & Compliance:
Manage corporate tax planning and compliance, coordinating with external advisors and internal stakeholders.
Audit & Assurance:
Serve as the primary liaison for external audits. Lead audit preparation, documentation, and resolution of findings.
Team Leadership:
Lead and mentor a high-performing finance team. Promote a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Systems & Technology:
Drive the adoption and optimization of financial systems and tools to enhance reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.
Executive Reporting:
Present financial results, forecasts, and KPIs to executive leadership and board-level stakeholders in a clear and strategic manner.
Qualifications:
CPA designation required; MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred
Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in financial leadership roles, ideally within a large or complex organization
Proven track record in financial strategy, team leadership, and cross-functional collaboration
Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP, tax regulations, and enterprise financial systems
