Financial Controller

to take full ownership of our financial operations.

Position Summary

We are looking for an experienced

Financial Controller

to oversee all financial, accounting, and administrative functions across our three divisions. This role will manage the existing bookkeeper, implement strong systems and internal controls, improve reporting, and act as a key advisor to ownership.

This is a hands-on management role ideal for someone who excels in a small to mid-sized manufacturing environment and wants to make a major impact.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

Oversee daily accounting operations for all divisions (MetalPress Machinery, Dynamo Furnaces, BHC Investments) Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements Manage general ledger, account reconciliations, accruals, and month-end close Develop budgets, cash-flow forecasts, and financial dashboards for management Ensure accurate job costing, margin tracking, and WIP analysis for manufacturing projects

Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Support

Implement and maintain cost accounting systems for production Track inventory, raw materials, assemblies, and finished goods Monitor labor, overhead allocation, and machine build costs Identify opportunities for cost reduction and margin improvement

Tax, Compliance & Audit

Coordinate annual tax filings with external accountants (T2, HST, payroll, WSIB) Maintain compliance with CRA regulations, capital asset tracking, CCA schedules Manage intercompany transactions between operating divisions and BHC Investments Assist with tax planning, corporate structure, and regulatory filings

Leadership & Oversight

Supervise and mentor the bookkeeper; improve workflow and efficiency Standardize accounting processes, procedures, and internal controls Provide actionable insights and recommendations to ownership Support the owner during a future retirement transition and succession planning

Banking, Cash Flow & Administration

Prepare cash flow projections and monitor liquidity needs Manage banking relationships, credit facilities, and capital purchases Oversee AP, AR, payroll, purchasing controls, insurance, and contract management Assist with financial analysis for leases, equipment purchases, and major projects

Qualifications

CPA designation (preferred but not required with strong experience) 5-15+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience Experience in

manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial equipment

strongly preferred Solid knowledge of cost accounting, inventory systems, and job costing Proficiency in QuickBooks, ERP systems, and Microsoft Excel Strong analytical and organizational skills Ability to work independently in a hands-on role Leadership experience managing bookkeeping or accounting staff
