Position Summary



The Financial Controller plays a key leadership role overseeing the financial operations of the Canadian division, which includes both distribution and manufacturing activities. This role is responsible for financial reporting, regulatory compliance, cash and cost control, international trade finance, and operational support. The ideal candidate will combine strong financial management experience with a working knowledge of import/export processes and manufacturing cost structures.

Core Responsibilities



Financial Management & Reporting



Manage the day-to-day operations of the accounting and finance functions including general ledger, collections, accounts payable, payroll, tax reporting and billing. Prepare internal and external financial statements in line with corporate policies and local regulatory requirements. Maintain appropriate cash levels and implement measures to meet minimum cash balance targets. Identify and implement corrective actions for missed financial targets or KPIs. Provide financial analysis, forecasting, and recommendations to support business decision-making. Lead the external audit process, ensuring timely and accurate provision of information to support a clean audit opinion. Assist with Capex requests providing advice on local statutory treatment and completing ROI analysis if required. Maintain and optimize company profitability; advise the leadership team on industry trends and commercial risks impacting financial performance.

Import/Export Trade & Compliance



Oversee all financial aspects of international trade, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and visibility of cash flow related to import and export activities - customs duties, tariffs, brokerage fees and freight cost. Ensure timely and accurate preparation of commercial invoices, customs declarations, and shipping documentation in accordance with international trade regulations and CBSA. Collaborate with logistics, procurement, and legal teams to ensure proper classification of goods (HTS codes), customs valuation, and origin compliance. Monitor and manage foreign exchange exposure from foreign supplier payments and export receivables, advising on hedging strategies as needed.

Governance, Controls & Risk Management



Ensure compliance with all local, provincial, and federal regulatory reporting requirements, including tax filings, statutory accounting, legal disclosures, and government census or statistical reporting requests for CRA, CBSA, and employment standards. Establish and enforce robust internal controls to safeguard company assets; report any suspected financial or legal irregularities to the Group CFO and Managing Director. Engage with banking partners, insurance brokers, legal counsel, and tax advisors to proactively manage financial and operational risk. Uphold company policies and ensure due process in recruitment, performance evaluation, and terminations within the finance function. Identify and advise senior leadership on financial or legal exposures, including product liability, customs infractions, or supplier disputes. Support organization in their efforts to develop contingency plans for supply chain disruption, system outages, or natural disaster and participate in financial risk assessments if required.

Leadership & Strategic Support



Develop strategic financial plans and ensure alignment with the leadership team and broader corporate objectives. Participate in operations reviews and assist in cost reduction, productivity improvements, and capital expenditure decisions. Develop costing models for manufacturing operations, supporting margin analysis and inventory valuation. Drive continuous improvement in financial processes and systems to support scalable growth. Support system implementations and upgrades, ensuring alignment of finance and operations data flows. Lead, manage, and develop the finance team to ensure continuous improvement and capability growth. Support the roll out of corporate initiatives as needed - including but not limited to consolidations, intercompany, FP&A, budgeting and forecasting.

Requirements



A bachelor's degree (accounting or business-related) and relevant professional qualification, such as CPA (K), CIMA, ACCA, or ACA. 10+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing, engineering, or distribution related industries. Excellent knowledge of IFRS, US GAAP and local accounting standards. Preparation of financial statements under a variety of accounting standards. Power-user of Microsoft Office applications and cloud-based ERP systems. Preparation of or audit of consolidated accounts and associated journals. Experience leading system implementation projects. Effective communicator of financial data. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work well under pressure.

Pay: From $110,000.00 per year
