The Role
The Financial Controller owns ROMEX's financial and accounting operations end?to?end. This is a
hands?on, single?person finance function
to start, responsible for both day?to?day accounting execution and forward?looking financial leadership.
You will close the books, maintain compliance, and deliver reliable reporting--while also forecasting, analyzing, and advising leadership as the business pivots and scales. This role requires comfort operating independently, setting cadence, and getting things right.
What You'll Do:
Core Responsibilities
Own all accounting functions: AR, AP, payroll, GL, cost accounting, and revenue recognition
Deliver accurate, timely monthly closes and cadenced financial reporting
Prepare budgets, forecasts, variance analysis, and forward?looking financial insights
Manage cash flow, working capital, and banking relationships
Support capital investment analysis and long?term planning
Compliance & Risk
Ensure compliance across
Canadian (ASPE)
and
U.S. (U.S. GAAP)
accounting requirements
Manage U.S. and Canadian payroll, sales tax, statutory remittances, and filings
Maintain audit readiness and act as liaison with external accountants and tax advisors
Stay current on regulatory, tax, and accounting standard changes
Systems & Scale
Own accounting systems, ERP workflows, and reporting tools
Design clear, documented financial processes that scale with growth
Identify and address risks, gaps, and inefficiencies proactively
Build the foundation for a future finance team as the business expands
What You Bring:
Experience & Qualifications
CPA designation (or equivalent experience)
5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
Experience operating as a stand?alone or very lean finance function
Strong working knowledge of ASPE and U.S. GAAP
Hands?on experience with U.S. and Canadian payroll and tax compliance
Advanced Excel skills and strong ERP/accounting system experience
Experience in construction, manufacturing, or distribution is an asset
