to oversee the accounting operations of our organization. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in accounting principles, regulatory compliance, and financial management. This role requires a strategic thinker with excellent analytical skills to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance with GAAP and other standards, and accounting and bookkeeping. The Financial Controller will play a critical role in maintaining the integrity of accounting and data, supporting budgeting processes, and ensuring regulatory reporting requirements are met efficiently.
Responsibilities
Oversee all accounting functions including general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing.
Prepare and review financial statements, reports, and analyses to support management decision-making.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards such as GAAP, IFRS, SOX, and specific regulations related to non-profit and governmental accounting.
Conduct balance sheet reconciliations and account analysis to maintain accurate financial records.
Lead regulatory reporting efforts in accordance with federal, provincial , and local requirements.
Perform month-end and year-end closing processes ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Implement and maintain accounting software systems such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or other financial management tools.
Coordinate external audits and liaise with auditors to facilitate smooth audit procedures.
Stay current on evolving financial concepts, regulations, and best practices in corporate accounting.
Requirements
Proven experience in corporate accounting with a strong understanding of GAAP; experience with IFRS or SOX compliance is a plus.
Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or similar platforms; advanced Excel skills are required.
Strong knowledge of technical accounting concepts including double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, account reconciliation, balance sheet reconciliation, general ledger reconciliation.
Experience managing accounts payable/receivable processes and payroll functions.
Excellent financial report writing skills coupled with analytical capabilities for financial analysis and forecasting.
Ability to interpret complex financial data into clear insights for stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities within deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
Strong understanding of financial concepts including cash management, budgeting, account analysis, and internal controls.
