This position involves specialized work in the application of corporate collection procedures, financial analysis and assessment, and legal practices designed to maximize revenue recoveries for monies owed to the organization. The work involves complex collection assignments and a sound familiarity with court proceedings including the ability to gather and evaluate relevant evidence, filing legal documents and attending court hearings and proceedings. This position provides collection support advice to other staff and managers in the organization, liaises with all levels of management and external agencies, assists in the development of collection policies, procedures, and reporting, negotiates repayment schedules, participates in the write off process and sits on various committees. Work is performed with minimal supervision while exercising considerable independence and initiative. The Financial Collections Officer is expected to have considerable experience meeting deadlines, while maintaining a high level of productivity, accuracy, and efficiency, and have demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication, customer service, organizational and time management skills.   • Work demands do not result in considerable fatigue requiring periods of rest. Work provides the opportunity to occasionally stand and walk within the office environment.
  • Occasionally required to lift files, supplies, etc., weighing less than 10 lbs. May be required to maneuver carts to retrieve and distribute mail, load paper into fax machines and printers, etc.
  • Constantly required to perform fine finger/precision work while sitting using a computer and mouse entering data. Regularly required to stand while delivering training to staff as required.
Job Qualifications
  • Graduation from High School or equivalent.
  • Completion of a recognized/approved three-year Business Management Program specializing in accounting is required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience within the last five in the collections or legal department, with emphasis on Small Claims Court Proceedings is required.
  • Considerable experience in telephone collections and small claims court proceedings is preferred.
  • A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
