Financial Analyst

We are pleased to be partnering with MetOcean in the recruitment of a Financial Analyst to join their organization in their Dartmouth, NS office.Reporting to the Controller, the successful candidate will be involved in accounting procedures, financial reporting and conducting in-depth analysis. The candidate will provide management with financial insights including variance analysis, KPIs, and develop dashboards by working within in accounting team, as well as cross-functionally, and work with large sets of data to provide recommendations on areas of risk or improvements.Responsibilities will include:

• Prepare general ledger account entries and reconciliations.
• Compile quarterly working paper files.
• Prepare reports and analyses to communicate financial results.
• Analyze revenue and gross margin across product lines and business units to identify opportunities and work through recommendations.
• Provide operating expense analysis and provide feedback to various levels of management.
• Assist with the budget and forecasting processes.
• Build and maintain gross margin models by revenue stream and customer.
• Identify opportunities to automate financial reporting and analysis.
• Analyze contracts and develop data models to consolidate large data sets from multiple sources.
• Create and maintain complex financial data models and dashboards.
• Participate in cross-functional initiatives and ad hoc projects to provide financial analysis for decision support.
• Other related duties as required.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Bachelor's degree with a focus in finance, business, accounting, or IT.
• Minimum three years of progressive experience within a finance department, preferably with Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet responsibilities.
• Excellent team player, as well as the ability to work independently.
• Effective communication skills (written & verbal).
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP, or other ERP systems, preferred but not required.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to evaluate effective solutions.
• Excellent organization and time management skills.
• Propensity to integrate information from a variety of sources with varied levels of complexity.
• Strong attention to detail and demonstrate a capacity to adapt to change quickly.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office 365 suite of applications.
