Financial Analysts are part of a team of professionals providing financial and statistical/utilization information, analysis and strategic problem solving to both clinical and non-clinical teams throughout the hospital. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within the Finance department delivering consistent, accurate, and timely information while providing excellent customer service to all internal and external stakeholders. Responsibilities include:Prepare and post all necessary journal entries in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Standards
Coordinate and process month-end and year-end activities
Complete monthly balance sheet account reconciliation and funding reconciliation
Monitor and interpret financial and statistical data and trends, including interpreting financial performance measures, analyzing monthly budget variances and resolving discrepancies in financial reports
Prepare and distribute monthly financial statement package provided to internal users
Support capital planning process by providing required variance analysis of capital purchases and projects, tracking reports and data submissions
Work closely with external Accounts Payable service provider (MMC) on all aspect of Accounts Payable
Work with external auditors and prepare audit working papers, such as lead sheets, etc.
Contribute to improving efficiencies and performance as well as providing quality financial information
Coordinate, plan and submit timely Ministry of Health and Long Term Care reports such as MIS Trial Balance, SRI and other ad-hoc Ministry and LHIN submissions
Act as the in-house subject matter expert on MIS guidelines and OHRS reporting standards
Ensure accounting policies used are in compliance with internal policies, MIS Guideline/OHRS guidelines, Public Sector Accounting Standards and Canadian GAAP
What you bring to the role:Degree in business or relevant program of study, with professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA)
Self-directed, action oriented and highly motivated, an adept team player and team leader
Minimum 3 to 5 years financial / clinical analysis experience including accounting, reporting, budgeting, variance analysis and business case development (healthcare preferred)
Knowledge and experience of Health System Funding Reform (HSFR) and Ministry of Health reporting and Post Construction Operating Plans (PCOP) or demonstrated knowledge and experience in a relatable industry/environment
Proven ability to interpret, summarize and communicate complex financial and statistical data to stakeholders throughout the organization
Experience using multiple data sources (financial, statistical, case costing, CIHI databases, Ministry data etc) to develop and prepare complex analysis
Well-developed analytical, problem-solving and organization skills in order to meet conflicting priorities/deadlineAdvanced proficiency MS Office products, especially MS Excel
Sound organizational and planning skills with the ability to multi-task and meet conflicting deadlines are essential
Demonstrated commitment to personal growth and development
Prior experience in major Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system or a health care financial module (ie Meditech) and Business Intelligence software
MIS guidelines certificate preferred
Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
Demonstrated commitment to a safe environment for staff, patients and families by working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety regulations and completing mandated training and educational sessions as required
