Leads Financial Aid and Awards team and services. Integrates strategies and practices as part of the institutional Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) effort, particularly as student recruitment and retention strategies.

Knowledge and Skills


  • Undergraduate degree.
  • 5 years’ post-secondary work experience with adult learners. Equivalent combination of post secondary education and work experience will be considered.
  • Ability to effectively lead and support others to complete projects.
  • Ability to coordinate complex decisions and time sensitive workflow.
  • Demonstrated exceptional organizational, time management and accountability skills and the ability to work without direct supervision yet maintain broad, collaborative communication across multiple departments.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all individuals accessing Financial Aid and Awards services.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, the ability to effectively manage routine and non-routine office procedures and systems and the ability to exercise sensitivity, tact and empathy while supporting students and staff while working with other departments and campuses.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement and decision-making ability especially in the face of adversity, requirements for collaborative problem-solving and/or time pressures and to ensure that this information and/or resolution is communicated to the appropriate individuals.
  • Experience with a database scheduling system and student record system preferred.
  • Proven ability to work positively with a very demanding workload, changing priorities, and continuous interruptions and to coordinate activities with the work of the broader Student Services team and the Student Services Administrative Assistant.
  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet construction and application, database construction and management and internet research, and keyboarding skills of 50 wpm with precision and accuracy.

Duties and Responsibilities


The Financial Aid Officer functions as the team lead for Financial Aid and Awards. Supervises and mentors the Financial Aid Clerk, the Student Services Admin Assistant (50%), the Awards Assistant, and other seasonal and casual employees as required. As team lead, he/she coordinates and supports the day-to-day performance of work, leads and aligns long term planning with Student Services and CNC’s strategic directions. Has overall responsibility for developing award, criteria’s, forming selection committees and responsible for the fair and unbiased selections of student awards. He/she is also responsible for maintaining strong Financial Aid and Awards services for CNC students. Is the primary CNC liaison for all provincial and federal student grants and awards, and for non-government grants and awards, including International student awards. The Team Lead will work with College Leadership and the Donor and Alumni Relations Coordinator in the enhancement and development of fundraising campaign operational processes. Financial Aid and Awards staff will support the focus of building a culture of philanthropy within the college and community. In collaboration with the fundraising process the Team Lead will work with college partners in the identification of bursary plans, student needs and associated processes to support annual fundraising goals. The Team Lead will lead and develop successful planning and execution of information sharing and communications within the College to ensure appropriate stewardship and recognition plans are developed with student recipients from the fundraising campaign. Is responsible for ensuring the Manager of Student Success and Retention is well-informed about changes in provincial funding policies, new funding initiatives, online awards, system modifications, strategies and potential changes. Pro-actively analyses and communicates impacts of changes on CNC students, programs and other services. Works collaboratively across College departments to ensure students have maximum opportunity for financial aid awards.
