The Financial Accountant will report to the Financial Controller and will be responsible for assisting with the financial reporting and accounting processes for a commercial real estate portfolio. This role combines financial accounting with aspects of construction accounting. This includes the management of general ledgers, reconciling accounts and supporting the accounts payable and receivable function while also understanding job-cost tracking, project budgeting and capital expenditure management. The ideal candidate will bring a concrete understanding of financial accounting, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to financial performance and analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
Identify and leverage opportunities to implement improvements optimizing Yardi ERP to ensure efficiencies and flow of internal financial processes.
Complete monthly reconciliations of bank accounts and general ledgers.
Assist with the creation and monitoring of corporate and operating budgets.
Maintain detailed job cost records for construction and capital improvement projects.
Process and reconcile construction draws, progress billings, and retention payments.
Track project budgets, commitments, change orders, and actual costs.
Work closely with project managers and cross functional teams spanning across the entire organization.
Assist in creating and implementing the processes around the company's residential division (including the use of Yardi residential)
Contribute to cash flow forecasting and financial planning activities.
Assist with the overview of accounts payable and receivable cycles, ensuring timely billing and receipts.
Ensure accounting records related to all properties are kept up to date within guidelines established under Canadian generally accepted accounting standards.
Participate in ad-hoc requests for special accounting transactions and projects.
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls.
Collaborate with all stakeholders to achieve financial objectives.

Qualifications & Attributes:
A recognized degree and/or diploma from an accounting program.
CPA designation required.
Must have 3-5 years of related accounting experience.
Strong understanding of accounting principles, payment practices, and processes.
Able to perform moderate to complex account reconciliations.
Strong attention to detail, data accuracy, and organizational abilities.
Ability to learn and adapt with evolving projects. manage priorities, and work in a fast-paced environment
Create and maintain positive working relationships with the ability to work collaboratively as a team and/or independently as required to achieve financial objectives.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and business acumen
Strong computer literacy and proficient in Microsoft 365 and Adobe suite of software.
Experience with Yardi software suite is considered a strong asset.
Recent experience in Property Management and/or Construction financials is considered a strong asset.
Maintain safe and healthy work environment aligning with and enforcing the KRP safety policy program and procedures.
A Police Record Check will be a requirement of employment.
