Job Description

Reporting to the Manager, Shipyard Accounting, VDC, the Financial Accountant II supports day-to-day accounting and reporting for Seaspan's Vancouver Drydock (VDC). Working closely and collaboratively with VDC Operation's team in a fast-paced environment, the Financial Accountant II assists by maintaining accurate data to facilitate strategic decision making. We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and analytical individual to join our team. The role will include month-end entries, account reconciliations, variance analysis, financial reporting, process documentation, and project support.


Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 203 East Esplanade, North Vancouver.



What you'll do



Partner with VDC Operation's team to provide financial data and insights for decision making purposes. Support month-end close, including the preparation of journal entries. Monthly reconciliation of various balance sheet accounts and maintenance of working papers. Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly management reports, including variance analysis, and weekly project dashboards. Weekly cash management forecast, including reconciling payments, maintaining AR schedules, and highlighting at-risk customers. Support development of the annual budget and periodic forecasts. Assist in interim and annual audit requirements, including responding to queries. Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness of accounting operations and internal controls at VDC. Assist with ad hoc issues or any new projects as they arise.

What you'll bring



CPA designation strongly preferred. Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 5+ years of accounting experience, with excellent knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and month-end close processes. Previous experience with ERP systems, particularly JD Edwards Enterprise One and SAP Business Objects Web Intelligence, would be a strong asset. Intermediate to advanced skills using MS Excel and solid skills in MS Office. Attention to detail and accuracy in all areas of work. Excellent people skills and strong written and verbal communication skills. Able to multi-task, work well under pressure and meet deadlines. Customer service orientation, self-starter and initiative driven.

The estimated salary for this position is $84,600- $103,400. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
