The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director, Finance/Treasurer, the Finance Operations Analyst provides analytical support with both departmental and cross-departmental project initiatives. The main duties and responsibilities for this position are in the areas of process and business improvements, financial reporting and accounting, and other department functions.
What You Will Do

  • Assist in providing timely and accurate financial information such as reports, statements, reconciliations, worksheets and other documents as required, to Finance and to other staff throughout the organization.
  • Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations, year- and quarter-end working papers and other information to assist with the preparation of year-end audited financial statements and quarterly reporting. Manage monthly accrual accounts and standard journal entries.
  • Assist Manager with quarterly budget to actual variance analysis for capital and operating budgets.
  • Coordinate software application exports and verify transactional dates to the finance system. Oversee and prepare water/wastewater collections.
  • Lead, develop, manage and provide support for business improvement initiatives.
  • Define improvement initiatives in consultation with divisions and determine scope and methodology. Conduct business process reviews and customer journey mapping to identify and support implementation of solutions and the integration of process changes into operational practices.
  • Apply management concepts and techniques such as Lean to define opportunities, measure performance, map and analyze the process to determine root causes and recommend solutions.
  • Assist Manager, Finance Services in developing and tracking metrics and key performance indicators consistent with Program Based Budgeting and a Service Level approach to budgeting.
  • Assist in the development and preparation of policies, procedures, and systems necessary to ensure that effective controls are in place to protect the financial affairs of the Town.
Qualifications: Skills and Experience
  • Two (2) years business or accounting experience and sound technical accounting knowledge including capital accounting. Experience with financial software implementation an asset.
  • Excellent administrative, communication, interpersonal, organizational, time management, and public relations skills, together with the ability to use tact and discretion and to deal courteously and effectively with the public and fellow staff members.
  • Ability to multi-task, cope with interruptions and work under pressure to meet multiple deadlines, exercise discretion and good judgment particularly when handling highly confidential/sensitive information. Possess a high level of initiative and personal integrity.
  • Thorough working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office applications, database management, and office equipment. Knowledge of Great Plains software an asset.
Qualifications
  • Diploma in Finance, Accounting or related discipline.
  • Completion of or working towards professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA, CGA; CPA, CMA; CPA, CA)
