JOB SUMMARY
The Financial Services Branch is responsible for the overall delivery of financial services to all City departments, Boards, Commissions and Agencies, ensuring that the financial support requirements and financial processing are delivered in a timely, meaningful manner. Services include budget development and monitoring, financial analysis, project management support, financial reporting both internal and external, financial compliance, financial advice and accounting requirements. The Account Management units develop strategic business partnerships and deliver integrated, seamless, value-added and \xe2\x80\x9cone-stop-shop\xe2\x80\x9d financial support to their client departments to meet on-going and evolving operational requirements of the assigned lines of business. You provide timely, accurate financial accounting information, working with FSU Coordinators, unit staff and other employees within the branch to coordinate and complete activities. You perform functions relating to the Capital and Operating budgets, process payments, track and process charge backs, revenue recoveries and receivables, and reconcile computerized client accounts. You also process purchase orders (PO) and/or purchase requisitions, perform month-end and year-end tasks, produce a variety of reports, investigate and respond to enquiries and requests, assist external auditors, and perform other related duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 2 year community college diploma in General Business, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field with an emphasis on courses in accounting or finance Minimum of 3 years of related general accounting experience in a computerized office environment
KNOWLEDGE
Acquired knowledge of the city organization, financial policies and procedures
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
Knowledge of commodity tax legislation
Processes for budget development and monitoring
Possess an understanding of corporate information management systems, including those used for financial budgeting, tracking, accounting and reporting
Possess an knowledge of relevant SAP modules and an understanding of maintenance management systems and/or other client software, and their interface with SAP
Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
