Job Description


The Finance Officer for the Aboriginal Health & Wellness Centre of Winnipeg, Inc. will work as part of the Management team under the direction of the Executive Director, the Finance Officer is responsible for a range of comprehensive accounting functions including all financial duties, preparation of all budgets and financial reports. The Finance Officer must be willing to work in an environment that supports individuals who may be hostile, oppositional and volatile, while at all times maintaining composure and behave in a professional and dignified manner.
Under the direction of the Executive Director or Designate, the Finance Officer will ensure that all activities are undertaken in a manner that is consistent with and complementary to the Vision Statement, the Principles and Values, and the policies and procedures of the Aboriginal Health & Wellness Centre of Winnipeg, Inc. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of all programs annual budgets for approval by Executive Director
  • Prepares all monthly/quarterly financial statements
  • Establish, maintain and reconcile the general ledger
  • Ensure security for all credit cards and verify charges
  • Prepares income statements
  • Prepare balance sheets
  • Maintain the computerized accounting system (QuickBooks)
  • Ensures all funders financial reporting requirements are adhered to
  • Ensures all financial reports are submitted in accordance with funder requirements
  • Ensures the monthly remittance to Revenue Canada are submitted by the 15th of each month
  • Prepares and documents all in-coming Revenue for deposit to bank
  • Prepares and verifies all accounts payable and directs for payment
  • Ensures all documentation required for annual audit are in order
  • Prepares monthly bank reconciliations
Qualifications and Skills
  • Completed Post-secondary (College or University level) study of Finance, Business, Accounting or equivalent and several years experience as deemed acceptable by AHWC
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation with current membership in good standing
  • Experience and Training in computerized financial management systems (Quickbooks)
  • Proven ability to utilize Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, etc.
  • Typing with a minimum of 40 WPM is essential
  • Extensive experience in drafting correspondence and preparation of reports
  • Strong time management and organizational skills to work effectively in an environment that requires the ability to meet deadlines and targets
  • Excellent problem solving, decision making and critical thinking skills to work effectively under stressful conditions
  • Strong interpersonal skills gained through working with diverse groups, individuals and organizations.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Knowledge and previous experience in data entry
  • Experience in invoicing and accounts payable
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Traditional Aboriginal values, beliefs and healing approaches.
  • An understanding of relevant municipal, provincial and federal legislation, policies and procedures
  • Ability to work both individually and as part of a team
  • Valid Driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and a vehicle is required
  • Ability to speak an Aboriginal language is a definite asset
  • Criminal record and abuse registry check
  • Ensures that all Accounts Receivable/Payable
  • Responsible for administering and balancing petty cash for all programs
  • Prepare, review and payroll summaries, journals and reports
  • Complete administrative duties relating to the Finance Department
