Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Accountant will have direct responsibility for the functions of finance, payroll and budgeting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
College or University degree in accounting or equivalent experience.
Minimum 5 years' relevant experience, preferably with non-profit organizations/Combination of CPA and few years' experience
Certified Professional Accountant designation is an asset
Competency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Must have experience in ADP Workforce Now
Experience with SAGE accounting software.
Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sectors Screening
Valid Class G driver's license with acceptable driving record and reliable vehicle.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure the Agency's financial affairs are conducted in accordance with the generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP), government & Ministry regulations.
Maintain professional standards in accordance with the Agency's policies and procedures, CCA Accreditation standards, and relevant legislation.
. Prepare bi-weekly payroll in ADP and Annual T4's.
Monitor income and expenditures within the approved Agency's budget.
On a monthly basis, educate Managers and Supervisors on their individual operating budget.
Ensure the financial systems are in place for the smooth and efficient daily operation of the Agency, and prepare the financial section of the Agency's Service Plan.
Advise and consult with the Executive Director on budgeting, expenditure control and forecasting.
Provide financial statements and data to the Executive Director, the Board and relevant departments as necessary.
Provide financial reports (including the Transfer Payment Annual Report - TPAR) as required by various funding bodies, for funding proposals and grants.
Complete the Registered Charity Information Return to maintain the Agency's charitable organization status.
Facilitate the maintenance and replacement of the Agency's property and equipment.
Administer RRSP Plan and Health Benefit Plan in conjunction with the Executive Director and Human Resources Manager, Negotiate renewal of plans in the best interest of the Agency's financials.
Keep up-to-date the Agency's insurance; including: General Liability, Director's & Officer's, Professional Liability (also often referred to as Errors and Omissions), Property (Commercial), and Vehicle.
