Finance & Accounting Manager

Job Description


Our client in the Building Materials industry is seeking an experienced Finance & Accounting Manager to lead the financial operations of their organization. This role will oversee core accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance while managing a small team. The ideal candidate will bring a hands-on approach to financial leadership, with a strong ability to analyze data, streamline processes, and support strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily operations of the finance and accounting department, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
- Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
- Lead the budgeting and forecasting process, working closely with department heads to monitor performance against budget and drive accountability.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant tax, legal, and regulatory requirements, including audit preparation and government reporting.
- Develop and maintain internal controls and financial procedures to safeguard assets and ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
- Conduct financial analysis to support business decisions, cost control initiatives, and investment planning.
- Manage cash flow, monitor working capital, and recommend strategies for financial efficiency and risk mitigation.
- Supervise and develop a small finance team by providing mentorship, setting clear goals, and evaluating performance.
- Coordinate with external partners such as auditors, financial institutions, and tax advisors.
- Drive process improvements and automation initiatives within the finance function to enhance efficiency and reporting accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA designation or equivalent is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting roles, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory position.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and best practices.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems is an asset.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
