*This is a term position until April 22, 2026*
The Film Equipment Coordinator is a part-time (0-35 hours per week) term position responsible for providing students with specialized film equipment loans and technical advice while they work on their course assignments. This position is integral to the operation of all Filmmaking courses through issuing film equipment and monitoring its return so that it can be re-issued quickly to the next student requiring it.
Responsibilities:

  • After consultation with staff and faculty, creates and maintains a regular weekly schedule so students know the days and hours when the Equip. Coordinator is in the equipment room.
  • Issues and receives back film equipment to/from authorized students.
  • Supervises students as they test each piece of equipment prior to being signed in and out.
  • Reports faulty or damaged equipment to the Asst. to the Production Coordinator.
  • Develops thorough familiarity with how THFM film equipment works.
  • Becomes familiar with the equipment needs of each film class through directions from each Film Instructor.
  • Learns the equipment reservation system.
  • Keeps records of which students are authorized to take out equipment, and which equipment.
  • Checks voicemail messages regularly, and return inquiry calls promptly.
  • Checks the reservation system consistently and updates the reservation calendar with new reservations.
  • This entails logging all new reservations and following up with students by email to confirm which equipment is reserved, and which equipment is unavailable for dates requested.
  • Maintains accurate records indicating the specifics (ID number, etc.) of each piece of equipment being signed-out.
  • Maintains accurate records indicating:
  • the name of person checking out the equipment
  • when the equipment was checked out
  • when it is due back
  • whether it was returned on time
  • Attends and participates in Equipment Orientation Sessions for all film students to review equipment loan procedures.
  • Routinely replaces specialized equipment components as necessary and completes other minor repairs.
  • Routinely rotates batteries into chargers.
Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of THFM-3310 (Filmmaking II) within the last 5 years required.
  • One year of directly related experience and/or familiarity with film equipment.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively with peers.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to maintain cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Familiarity with specialized film equipment.
An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.
Condition(s) of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Ability to work day, evening and/or weekend shifts.
