Job Description

Parslow Heritage Consultancy is hiring field technicians for the upcoming 2026 field season. This is a physically demanding, outdoor role that supports archaeological investigations alongside community stakeholders and Indigenous field representatives. The work involves extensive manual labour, long days in the field, and working in a wide range of weather and terrain conditions.

This role is best suited for people with experience in construction, landscaping, environmental fieldwork, or other physically intensive outdoor work who are interested in contributing to archaeological projects. Formal archaeological education is welcome, but practical field experience, work ethic, and resilience in outdoor conditions are essential.

As a Field Technician, you will:



Participate in archaeological surveys, assessments, and excavations under the supervision of the Field Director. Perform manual excavation tasks, including digging, shoveling, troweling, screening soil, and backfilling. Repeatedly bend, kneel, stand, lift, and work at ground level for extended periods. Lift, carry and move materials and soil up to 50 lbs. Walk, hike, and trek up to 20km per day across uneven terrain. Work outdoors in heat, rain, wind, and variable weather conditions. Collect and screen soil samples according to field protocols Participate and contribute to a positive and collaborative working environment. Work alongside community stakeholders and Indigenous field representatives Engage with local communities and educating them about the significance of archaeological work Promote a respectful and culturally sensitive approach when interacting with community members Gain a better understanding of Ontario's history, and the consulting archaeology industry in Ontario Work in a variety of locations across Ontario

Skills and Qualifications:



Previous experience in physically demanding outdoor work (construction, landscaping, environmental fieldwork, or similar) is a strong asset. Archaeological education (degree or field school completed or in progress) is welcome but not required for candidates with relevant field experience. Physically fit and willing to perform repetitive manual labour, including kneeling, bending, shovelling, lifting, and long periods of standing and walking Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and carry 20lbs repeatedly. Comfortable working long field days in rough terrain and changing weather conditions Ability to travel and hotel overnight (double occupancy). Per Diem will be provided Ability to convene at rallying points for transportation to/from site
