JOB SUMMARY



The Waste Collection unit is responsible for residential waste collection programs and services (including garbage, recycling, organics, and yard and leaf waste) for the two collection zones awarded to the City (currently totalling 114,119 homes).
You are responsible to plan, organize, coordinate and control assigned collection activities of Collections Operations. You assign and supervise employees engaged in occupations concerned with the collection of residential waste from a designated area within the City of Ottawa. Work activities include the collection of garbage, recycling (blue box, black box), leaf and yard waste and organics.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



Completion of Grade 12
Minimum of 5 years of recycling and refuse collection experience is required, including previous experience in a supervisory capacity

KNOWLEDGE


Waste collection practices Extensive knowledge of computer programs, i.e. Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook, etc. Extensive knowledge of human/equipment/material resources, policies and procedures as they relate to waste collection Extensive knowledge of the performance capabilities of equipment used for waste collection activities Extensive knowledge of the roads/streets within the assigned contract zone Extensive knowledge of city policies, procedures and by-laws Human resource practices and interpretation and application of collective agreements Must possess the training, experience and knowledge to organize the work and its performance Must be familiar with all applicable health and safety legislation, have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the work place, and have knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staff in accordance with applicable legislation and City policies and procedures

Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing Driver's License Requirement: A valid Ontario unrestricted DZ class driver's license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
