Job Summary
The Field Service Technician provides hands-on technical leadership and field support for complex electro-mechanical systems, automation equipment, and control systems. This role ensures high-quality service delivery, successful equipment installation, and customer training while managing the service team and overseeing global deployments.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical & Control Systems
Perform advanced electrical troubleshooting on complex automation systems, PLC networks, and servo drives.
Commission and calibrate control systems including HMI programming, sensor integration, and safety circuits.
Diagnose and repair electrical faults in power distribution, motor controls, and instrumentation systems.
Implement electrical modifications and system upgrades to improve performance and reliability.
Test and validate electrical safety systems including emergency stops, light curtains, and interlock circuits.
Mechanical Systems & Equipment
Execute mechanical troubleshooting on packaging equipment, conveyors, and robotic manipulators.
Perform precision alignment of mechanical components using laser alignment tools and precision instruments.
Conduct mechanical repairs including bearing replacement, coupling alignment, and drive system maintenance.
Optimize mechanical performance through vibration analysis, torque specifications, and preventive maintenance.
Install and commission mechanical assemblies ensuring proper fitment and operational parameters.
System Integration & Commissioning
Integrate electro-mechanical systems ensuring seamless operation between mechanical components and electrical controls.
Commission complete automation lines from initial power-up through production validation.
Perform system optimization balancing mechanical performance with electrical control parameters.
Validate system performance against specifications using diagnostic equipment and performance metrics.
Coordinate system start-ups with minimal supervision and customer guidance.
Technical Support & Training
Provide hands-on technical training to customer maintenance personnel on electrical and mechanical systems.
Create technical documentation including troubleshooting guides, wiring diagrams, and maintenance procedures.
Support customer operations through remote diagnostics and on-site technical assistance.
Maintain technical expertise through continuous learning of new technologies and control systems.
Leadership & Operations
Supervise and mentor field service technicians, providing technical guidance, performance reviews, and ongoing development.
Ensure thorough documentation of service work, issues, and resolutions using internal systems (e.g., Clockify, service reports).
Coordinate with engineering and project management for FATs and SATs.
Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering or demonstrated equivalent knowledge typically acquired from relevant work experience.
- Proven track record managing complex automation and packaging equipment projects
- Experience with international project deployment and customer support
Technical Expertise
- Advanced knowledge of electrical systems including 3-phase power, VFDs, servo systems, and PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider Electric)
- Expert mechanical troubleshooting using precision tools and alignment equipment
- Control system proficiency in HMI development, SCADA, and industrial networking (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, DeviceNet)
- Electrical safety expertise including LOTO, arc flash analysis, and code compliance
- Diagnostic capabilities using oscilloscopes, power analyzers, and thermal imaging
- Understanding of mechanical design including pneumatics, hydraulics, and precision motion
- Programming skills in ladder logic, structured text, and function block languages

- Experience with industrial robotics programming
- Motor drive and servo system expertise
Working Conditions
- Extensive travel required - up to 50% including international assignments
- Work at both Propack facilities and customer sites worldwide
