We currently have exciting opportunities within our Cavendish Farms operations for Agri Student to join our teams in Lethbridge, Alberta, for the Summer 2024 Work Term.

Cavendish Farms is a leading producer of frozen food products for retail and foodservice markets throughout Canada, the United States, and around the world. We have state-of-the-art potato processing plants in Prince Edward Island, Lethbridge, Alberta, and Jamestown, North Dakota, and an appetizer plant in Wheatley, Ontario. Our Head Office is in Dieppe, New Brunswick and has sales office locations in Toronto, Montreal, and Boston.

Reporting to the Raw Procurement Manager, the successful candidate will be a results-driven, self-starter who is looking for opportunities to learn the processing potato business..

Qualifications and Abilities:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture or Technical Diploma in Agriculture.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage conflict and participate in a team environment.
  • A proven track record of being a self-starter and taking initiative.
  • Valid Class 5 license
  • Able to lift 50 pounds.
Key Responsibilities:
  • You will join a team of professionals dedicated to providing the best possible raw to our Lethbridge potato processing facility.
  • Sample potato storages, evaluate seed cutting operations and planter accuracy.
  • Visit grower fields as necessary obtaining samples as required.
  • Participate in learning opportunities to enhance your extension skills.
  • Provide timely data on potato quality.
  • Participate with Production staff to determine their potato requirements for plant operations.
  • Report food safety and quality issues to personnel with authority to initiate actions.
  • Assist with the supervision 10 hourly truck unloading and potato grading staff
  • Commitment to Quality System Policy.
Health and Safety Responsibilities:
  • Using or wearing the protective equipment designated by the accident prevention policy.
  • Follow safe work procedures.
  • Reporting immediately to their supervisor any unsafe conditions or acts.
  • Reporting all accidents or injuries to your supervisor immediately.
Food Safety Responsibilities:
  • Commitment to Quality System Policy
  • Enforce quality and food safety programs within the role
  • Communication of food safety issues to related department and action within the role
  • Active participation in food safety, food security, health, sanitation, hygiene and quality program within the role
