Job Description

New hires who complete their probation can earn a signing bonus up to $500Year around position with steady work and lots of overtime in the summer. The Crew Leader - Fence performs a variety of semi-skilled, skilled, and leadership tasks in the areas of temporary fence operations, vehicle and employee safety, and warehouse (shop) and yard upkeep. He/she supervises and participates in the work of a crew performing temporary fence services for customers, ensures fellow employees follow FLR guidelines for shop cleanliness and yard maintenance, and mentors new employees. He/she is essential to maximizing crew efficiency by anticipating bottlenecks, approaching tasks and requests in a timely and well-organized way, and using resources effectively.Essential Duties and Tasks: Conducts himself/herself with a positive, can-do attitude Leads crew and participate in a wide variety of yard and shop maintenance tasks (e.g., clean portable toilets, stack and count fence, sweep shop, repair fence, toilet, and waste equipment); work is supervised by the Warehouse Manager (WM), or other manager in the absence of WM Safe operation any FLR vehicle (e.g., trucks, trailers, skid steers), following all FLR, local, and provincial regulations Takes and uploads pictures of any issues that may cause the customer to be billed for extra work (e.g., dry runs, wait time, sites that are muddy/difficult to access, fence damages, frozen/buried panels and hardware) Completes pre-trips and log books according to established FLR and AB Ministry of Transportation standards Executes guidelines from FLR Transport Safety Manual Follows established company and government safety procedures while on site, in the shop, or working in the yard to ensure the safety of labourers and the general public Minimizes/eliminates damage to FLR and customer property and equipment Drives in a professional, first-class, and cautious manner, observing all regulations. He/she knows that any demerits or infractions negatively impact FLR's carrier profile Provides accurate, friendly, and responsive service to all customers (e.g., following dispatch installation instructions, contacting the customer for each dispatch before arriving on site, following all site rules and regulations) Follows dispatch completion procedures by closing out dispatches promptly and including detailed notes in HelpDesk reply Is proactive and anticipates the needs for each day's work, be it in the field, shop, and/or yard Ensures all paperwork (i.e., time, job, float sheets) are completed accurately, all required fields are filled out, and paperwork is submitted on time to the appropriate person(s) (see Paperwork Policy) Drives vehicles of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment and material Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment. Supervises and performs routine inspection, cleaning, and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor(s) Performs other duties as requiredKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Ability to understand, follow, and communicate verbal and written instructions Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and the public The capacity to manage and resolve conflict with coworkers, site supervisors, and/or customers Thorough knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in each area of assigned work Considerable knowledge of work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned areas of work; ability to work safely Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time Working knowledge of leadership skills, including communication (verbal and written), motivation, and performance feedbackPhysical Demands & Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use their hands to feel, handle, and/or operate objects, tools, and/or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, stoop, kneel, lift, and bend at the knees. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions or uneven ground surfaces. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud on occasion.Qualifications:

  • High school diploma preferred
  • Class 5 driver's license (or higher)
  • Clean commercial driver's abstract
  • Leadership experience
  • Strong sense of customer service
  • Good organizational skills & ability to fill out paperwork accurately
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
