Grande Prairie Family Education Society is recruiting for a temporary posiion for an FASD Family and Caregiver Mentor to provide education, support and advocacy for families and caregivers of children (ages 0-12) who are diagnosed with or suspected to have Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder . The Family Support Mentor offers individualized support plans to each family based upon their strengths, stress factors, needs and goals. The education and strategies provided by the FASD Family Support Mentor will allow families to grow in their capacity to understand the FASD diagnosis and navigate the daily challenges faced by families and caregivers of children with/suspected of having an FASD. The Family Support Mentor will provide services to families in Grande Prairie and the surrounding communities. The FASD Family and Caregiver Mentor will possess a wide variety of skills, experience and knowledge including: ? Parent education ? Effective client advocacy, one to one support and mentoring ? Extensive knowledge of and willingness to learn about FASD ? Goal setting strategies, and knowledge of local resources and agencies. The FASD Family and Caregiver Mentor will also perform the following: ? Establish a trusting relationship with individuals/families while maintaining strong ethics and boundaries. ? Individual assessment, case planning and data entry. ? Supported referrals and community networking. ? Case management including advocacy and monitoring. ? Maintain positive relationships with other service organizations. Qualifications: ? Diploma or Bachelor's degree in social work and minimum three years work OR equivalent experience with vulnerable or at-risk populations including special needs. ? Understanding of addictions, mental health and harm reduction philosophy and practice. ? Proven organizational and time management skills. ? Proven written and verbal communication skills, problem solving skills, and ability to work with a wide range of clients. ? Ability to work independently ? Proficiency in Windows environment, Office 365, and operation of office equipment. ? Vehicle and valid driver's license. ? Clear criminal record check and Child welfare check

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $26.00-$28.00 per hour
