CUPS

Family/Play Therapist

is responsible for providing play therapy interventions for CUPS child clients and children referred to through the Calgary City Centre Family Resource Network. As a Family/Play Therapist, you will provide trauma-informed therapeutic interventions to children aged 3-12, supporting their emotional, social, and developmental well-being. Working closely with caregivers, internal teams, and external partners, you will help create a safe space for children to express themselves through play and develop coping strategies for life's challenges.

CUPS Family/Play Therapist works as part of the Family and Child Development Centre (FCDC) multi-disciplinary team. FCDC supports and delivers holistic care plans for each child to enhance psycho-emotional, educational and social success. As part of a multidisciplinary team, the CUPS Family/Play Therapist will case consult and collaborate with FCDC team members, and CUPS colleagues across the agency. They will also engage with the child's care givers to assist in building effective and timely wrap around supports.

CUPS values collaboration and continuous learning. Therefore, we welcome applicants who are not yet qualified or registered Play Therapists. Those who are not yet certified or registered are welcome to apply and would be supported by CUPS in pursuing Play Therapy training, if selected.

Key Responsibilities



Lead Therapeutic Support

: Conduct assessments, develop individualized treatment plans, and provide play therapy interventions within a 24-session model.

Collaborate for Success

: Work as part of CUPS' multidisciplinary team to ensure wraparound supports for children and families, including warm referrals to internal and external services.

Empower Caregivers

: Educate and guide parents/guardians throughout their child's therapy journey, ensuring a collaborative and supportive approach.

Create Safe Spaces

: Establish an environment where children can explore and heal through play in a trauma-informed setting.

Champion Integrated Care

: Participate in case consultations, team meetings, and cross-departmental collaboration to enhance CUPS' holistic approach to care.

Qualifications & Skills



Master's Degree in counselling or a related professional field that meets the CCPA's certification criteria, with three years experience in Mental Health Counselling and currently registered, in good standing, with a Professional Regulatory Body

2-3 years' experience

working with children aged 3-12 Exemplary knowledge of

child development, brain science, and trauma-informed care

Experience supporting families who have experienced trauma and navigating systemic barriers Demonstrated ability to

coach, problem-solve, and collaborate across teams

Strong computer literacy and documentation skills Outstanding record on the protection of all matters of confidentiality

Certified Play Therapist (CPT) or Registered Play Therapist (RPT) status is desired, but not essential
