Family Violence Prevention Project Coordinator - Term to March 31, 2026 (with possibility of renewal)

BACKGROUND:

SCO is a growing and dynamic regional First Nation organization that represents 32 Anishinaabe and Dakota Nations and more than 87,000 citizens in what is now southern Manitoba. Established in 1999 by the Chiefs, SCO is mandated as an independent organization to protect, preserve, promote, and enhance First Nation peoples' inherent rights, languages, customs, and traditions through the application and implementation of the spirit and intent of the Treaty-making process.

OVERVIEW:

The Family Violence Prevention Project (FVPP) is a new initiative designed to address gender-based violence by engaging young men in First Nation communities to understand the difference between healthy manhood and toxic masculinity, and how each impacts individuals, families, and communities.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the FVPP Coordinator will lead the development and delivery of a five-week Healthy Manhood Workshop Series in SCO First Nation schools. The FVPP Coordinator will work closely with First Nation Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community leaders to ensure the curriculum is culturally grounded and relevant. This position will require strong facilitation skills, the ability to connect with youth, and experience in addressing gender-based violence. The FVPP Coordinator will also seek additional funding sources through grant writing to sustain the program beyond the initial term.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collaborate with First Nation Elders, community members, and subject matter experts to adapt and finalize the Healthy Manhood curriculum

Facilitate the delivery of a five-week, after-school workshop series for boys in First Nation schools, once per week, in participating communities

Teach concepts related to healthy manhood, toxic masculinity, respect, empathy, and community responsibility

Build trust and positive relationships with students, school staff, parents, and community members

Coordinate project logistics, including scheduling, travel, supplies, and honoraria for Elders and guest speakers

Collect and maintain accurate participation data and feedback for reporting and evaluation purposes

Identify and apply for grants and other funding opportunities to extend the program's reach and sustainability

Promote the program through community outreach, events, and social media, ensuring alignment with SCO values and messaging

Prepare regular progress reports for upper management and funders

Public speaking engagements on the importance of healthy manhood and its impact on preventing gender-based violence

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor of Social Work or bachelor's degree in a related field. Equivalent education and experience will be considered

Minimum of 2 - 3 years' experience working in gender-based violence prevention, preferably with men's or youth engagement programs

Strong understanding of healthy manhood and toxic masculinity concepts, and their impacts on gender-based violence

Experience working with First Nation communities, preferably within SCO-member Nations

Experience coordinating program logistics such as scheduling, travel, and supplies

Demonstrated facilitation skills with youth in group settings

Knowledge of First Nations history, cultures, and traditions, with a commitment to culturally safe and trauma-informed programming

Grant writing experience is a strong asset

Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and in collaboration with multiple partners

Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and online communication tools

Ability to speak Anishinaabe or Dakota languages is an asset

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Must provide a current and satisfactory criminal record check, including vulnerable sector check, and a current and clear Child Abuse Registry check

A valid class 5 driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for business travel

If the incumbent is a registered member of a regulated profession, they must be in good standing

POSTED WAGE RANGE:

$75,000 - $80,000 Annually (commensurate with experience)
