We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to join our team in Saskatoon, SK. In this role, you will mostly work directly with families, providing essential support under the Child Protection Act and assisting clients in accessing various social services. This position is crucial in ensuring the safety, well-being, and empowerment of the families we serve.
Must-Have Requirements
Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
First Aid/CPR Level C certification.
Valid Canadian driver's license is a must.
Proof of qualifications as outlined in the job description.
Responsibilities
Supervise and care for children and families in accordance with the Ministry of Social Services guidelines.
Assist clients in exploring options and developing action plans while providing necessary support. Provide emotional support and companionship
Assess and investigate eligibility for social benefits.
Refer clients to social services or assist in locating community resources such as legal, medical, and financial assistance, housing, employment, transportation, daycare, and more.
Counsel clients in group homes and halfway houses, supervise activities and assist in pre-release and release planning.
Participate in the selection and admission of clients to appropriate internal and external programs.
Help individuals develop life skills and achieve personal goals
Meet with clients to assess their progress, offer support, and discuss any difficulties.
Ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for family visits.
Provide transportation for clients as needed, including pick-ups and drop-offs.
Document and report on individual progress and all visitations
Qualifications
Experience working with individuals in need of support
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Maintain a polite and professional demeanor at all times.
Compassionate and patient demeanor
Ability to work effectively in a team setting
Availability for weekend and evening shifts.
Certification in relevant fields such as social work or psychology is a plus
Formal Education
While formal education is not a strict requirement, candidates with the following qualifications will have an advantage:
Experience in a social service environment as a volunteer or in a support role.
Completion of a college or university program in social work, child and youth care, psychology, or other related fields.
Experience with FASD, Autism (minimum 1-year full-time experience).
Youth Care Worker (minimum 2-year program).
Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).
Indigenous Awareness Certification.
Naloxone training.
Personal Care Worker (PCW) or Personal Support Worker (PSW) certification.
Food Handler Certificate.
Gentle Teaching Certification
Employment Conditions
The position is subject to a six-month probationary period.
Employment may be terminated by either party with two weeks' written notice, or under extraordinary circumstances such as theft, fraud, or breach of conduct resulting in harm to others.
