Position Summary





The In-Home support program strives to empower parents and children to reach their personal goals that restore, support and enhance family functioning, child development, parent-child relationships and parental health. The Family Support Worker, using a strength-based, solution-focused approach will develop a collaborative, helping relationship that is grounded in a spirit of respect, connection, curiosity and hope. Family Support Workers provide practical assistance to families in their homes (houses, apartments, condos, rented or owned), based on a service agreement created with each family.


Duties




To provide child care to young children (primarily infants, toddlers, and school aged children), Undertake light housekeeping and meal preparation duties. Provide emotional support and parental guidance Connect families additional community resources during difficult family circumstances.

Education




Completion of post-secondary certificate or diploma program in Child and Youth Care, Early Childhood Education, Community/Family Support Worker or other Human Services education. A combination of relevant experience and training will be considered for applicants without a diploma/certificate Current First Aid and CPR is required (must be verified before any work placement/shifts arranged). Mental Health First Aid is as asset (training can be provided) De-escalating Potentially Violent Situations or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention is an asset.

Experience




Minimum of three years' related experience working in the social services sector with children, youth and/or parents impacted by poverty, trauma, mental illness, intimate partner violence, child welfare involvement, addictions, disability, racism and colonization. Experience working together with parents to build and strengthen parent-child relationships. Experience identifying and reporting indicators of child abuse or a child in need of protection. Experience assisting parents to meet developmental needs of infants, toddlers, and children, and recognizing milestones. Experience with household management like providing assistance with household duties, meal preparation, budgeting strategies, making use of available family resources Experience with documentation and reporting.

Working Conditions




Availability to work 40 hours/week (days and evening including weekend) Evening shifts may be scheduled until 10:00pm Placement with a family could be for six weeks or up to one year.
